My Favorite Kids' Commercials from the 90s

Zac Linzmeier
Growing up as a kid in the 1990s I experienced a lot of television, and commercials, on a fairly regular basis. These are some of the best, most memorable and certainly my favorite kids' commercials from the 90s.

As I think back to early Saturday mornings glued to the tube the first commercial of the 1990s to pop up is one with a jingle that still gets stuck in my head every now and then all of these years later - Hungry Hungry Hippos. This pre-Xbox game had that obnoxious conga like "we're hungry hungry hippos" music in the background and displayed a bunch of children trying their best to get their hippo to gobble up more than their friends' in a furious fashion. This one will most likely continue to stick with me for quite some time to come; as far as catchy jingles go this one takes the cake.

One of my favorite candies of the day also had one of my favorite commercials of the day. Something about that 90s Blow-pops commercial always made me want one of those gum filled suckers. Dressed in traditional 90s neon and set in a, for lack of a better descriptor, Blow-pop room a bunch of kids having fun and enjoying their candy treat. At the end they would all shout out "Blow-pops!" and one of the kids would finish it up by whispering "by Charm" just before the end. I think I might have to make a trip up to the convenience store to stock up on a whole case of these tasty treats now that I'm old enough to afford it!

On a similar note, and with another of the most notable commercial jingles of the 90s, comes Double Mint gum's commercial. Featuring many groups of twins in a time before one actor could easily play twins on the screen this helped Double Mint to easily monopolize the gum market amongst my circle of friends. That catchy "Double... MM... MM... Double Mint Gum" jingle was one that really got stuck in your head; I can't recall the number of times I have caught myself humming it over the years.

Little Ceasar's blasted onto the scene with its pizza in the 90s, rivaling the big boys and did so with a great commercial that I still remember from when I was a kid. With the crazy Little Ceasar's caveman bouncing all over the place and constantly blurting out his catch phrase of "pizza pizza" in a manner that I always associated with Roadrunner. Every kid loves pizza and this one surely made the push for Little Ceasar's over Dominos a couple of times.

Every 90s kid wanted the latest and greatest toy to hit the shelves and I was certainly no exception. Toys-R-Us captured my loyalty with a wide array of commercials always featuring that newest toy and usually accompanied by a group of my peers chanting "I don't want to grow up... I'm a Toys-R-Us kid". A trip to this store was surely the highlight of the day!

Hopefully I have rekindled some old memories as I have taken you back in time with five of the best kids' commercials of the 90s.
