Demi Moore is Lt.Cdr Joanne Galloway
Jack Nicholson is Col.Nathan R Jessep
Kevin Bacon is Capt.Jack Ross
Kiefer Sutherland is Lt.Jonathan Kendrick

James Marshall is Pfc.Louden Downey
J.A Preston is Judge Julius Alexander Randolph
J.T Walsh is Lt.Col Mathew Andrew Markinson
The Storyline
The story centers around the investigation of a marine that has been murdered in the military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The murder occurs through a long time military practice called code red that has long been outlawed. A group of navy lawyers are assembled and sent to Cuba to carryout the investigation.
The Movie
The action starts in Washington DC where we are introduced to the Navy headquarters where the investigation begins. Demi Moore is in charge of the investigation and she request for help from the naval legal team. This is where she is teamed up with Tom Cruise and they add Kevin Pollack to their investigation team.We then move to Guantanamo Bay,Cuba where the crime took place and there we are introduced to members of the US marine with Col Nathan R Jessep as head of the group.Permission is obtained from him and the investigation begins with the interrogation of some of the marines. With enough information the investigative team heads back to Washington DC where the drama unfolds inside a court room.
Performances
Tom Cruise has one of his finer performances as an actor in this movie especially in the courtroom. He blends very well with Demi Moore and one of the strong points of the movie is watching how the two of them interact. From the opening scene when they are hostile to each order to when they form a formidable legal team.
Jack Nicholson as Col Nathan R Jessep in the movie is in charge of the naval base in Guantanamo Bay,Cuba. He eats breakfast about 100 meters away from 3000 Cuban Marines that are trained to kill me is one of the lines that I remember from the movie.Mr Nicholson puts up a brilliant performance as a navy Col who is in charge of making national security decisions.Jack Nicholson plays his role very well and he is very egoist in the movie in my opinion. You damn right I ordered the code red is the line that gets him into deep trouble.A lot of people that have watched the movie say Jack is the man and that he is the one that makes the movie.I would have to agree with them.
Demi Moore teams up very well with Tom Cruise in the movie I think and she blends in very well with the guys. She is a high ranking official in the navy and has some security clearances that even surprises Kaffee.
Kevin Bacon is the government Attorney in the movie and he gets high marks for his performance in the movie. His energy is great and he puts up a great fight for the government.
Kieifer Sutherland is the third in command in the military base in Cuba but he is such a military believer to the extend that he is closer to Col. Nathan R Jessep than the second in command.I like his performance in this movie very much especially when he shows his disdain for the navy.
J.T Walsh as Lt.Col Andrew Mathew Markinson is the second in command in the Guantanamo base in Cuba.He does not get along with Col. Nathan R Jessep, his boss.Part of the reason being that Jessep has risen much faster in the military rank than he has since they both left the military academy.I did not like the part in the movie that he commits suicide for some personal reason. But his confrontation with his superior is great in my opinion.
Kevin Pollack as Lt Sam Weinberg is part of the naval defense team.He accompanies Kaffee and Joanne Galloway to Guantanamo Buy, Cuba for the investigation. He does not believe in the military practice of code red and express his disappointment in the fact that a kid is killed in the military because of the fact that he is weak.
Type of Audience
The movie in my opinion is good for all audiences. There is some foul language but that is expected in a military type movie.
Conclusion
I like this movie because there does not seem to be a dull moment at all in the flow of the movie. The director does a great job of getting the action moving smoothly from one great scene to another. The movie is star studded and all the stars in my opinion but up a very brilliant performance. The military settings are one of the strong points of the movie and you get to see a lot of that.First in Washington DC,then Guantanamo Bay,Cuba then back to Washington DC.
