Directed by the same man who directed Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile brings us many emotions as this story based on a 1930's novel, unfolds to what we can consider inspirational as well as an account of an unfair life for human kind.
Seven foot tall, black and gifted man, John Coffey (played by Michael Clarke Duncan) is convicted of murdering two white girls after he rapes them and is sentenced to death by way of the electric chair. Throughout his stay in the Louisiana prison, prison guards and the ward (part played by actor Tom Hanks) notices that this prisoner is gifted in healing. His powers heals a woman of a brain tumor as well as other miracles.
Thought of as a gentle giant, John began to convince others there that he didn't commit the crimes and even through premonition, he notices that a recently convicted prisoner is really the one who committed the murders.
A gifted man with dignity, love and a meekness unlike any other would amaze many, as he did in this movie. It makes you think about how lovely people can be even in a world that is full of hate, injustice and cruelty. There aren't too many people that are like John Coffey was and despite the hate around him, he maintained his gentle demeanor, inspired and loved those who came into contact with him.
Stephen King wrote a novel in 1996, that was inspired by the original. If you are a major Stephen King fan, the six part book volume is definitely something that you should read. Based on an actual place in a prison called the Green Mile.
There are several places where you can purchase the movie as well as check out the book series. Your local library is one place to check out the book. You can purchase the book on Amazon.com
There are also places where you can buy the movie as well. Hotmoviesale.
Then there is BlockBuster
Bizrate has it as well.
I highly recommend this movie to drama movie lovers. It is not a children's movie and I give it five stars! Rated R
