My Favorite Movie Review

Tim Brown
I suppose as an average American male of his mid thirties, I have seen my fair share of all genres of movies, from comedies to action, and perhaps beyond. Out of these movies, the ones that capture my interest the most are the movies that stir my emotions. I don't really even have to like the storyline, if my emotions share the movies, then I consider it a hit with me.

Rare is the film that captures both my emotions, and interest. There is one that stands out among these. A movie titled "American History X", starring Edward Norton, Beverly D'angelo, Elliot Gould, Edward Furlong, and Fairuza Balk along with Stacy Keach.

This story encompasses raw racism, dealing with it from multiple perspectives, but leaves you to make your own decision at the end.
The film begins as Edward Norton, (Derek Vineyard), who has a deep seated resentment towards races other than white due to a family murder, commiting an extremely violent act, and being sent to prison. It is there that Derek realizes that his previous life of hatred, and being surrounded and worshiped by the neo nazi white supremisist group he was involved in was wrong, and slowly begins to turn his thoughts, and life around prior to his release from jail.

However, in the meantime, his brother, Edward Furlong, (Danny Vineyard), has fallen in with the same group, and is almost destined to the same life as his older brother, Derek.

It isn't until a frightful scene, and a long brotherly talk that the younger brother comes to his senses, and joins Derek in trying to right the wrongs of both their pasts.

Unfortunately, the ending only prompts the viewer into the hate that inspires the whole movie from the beginning.

Tim, I have never seen the movie,"American History X," but your review has piqued my curiosity, so I'll have to try and see it sometime. (^;^) Unfortunately, it sounds like it has a sad ending, and I hate crying during movies . . .
