Reading has always been a passion of mine. It allows me to escape into a world of imagination. My favorite novel of all time is Flowers in the Attic. V.C. Andrews who wrote this fantastic novel has brought a two faced mother to life who chose money over her own children. A tragic accident took the life of her husband. She and her four children were left alone to defend for themselves.
The four young children learn the hard way of their mother's true colors. After the death of her husband, the mother convinces the children to move with her to her parents mansion. She told her children they had to hide away in one room till she won back her father's love and devotion. Their playground was the attic. The mother promised it would only be for a few days, a week at the most.
The week turned into months. Months turned into three years. In the beginning she would visit them every day or so, that soon changed. The greed of the money became all she wanted in her life. Her kids were not important to her any longer. Cathy and her older brother Chris bonded in a way no brother and sister should ever bond.
This novel is one of a kind. V.C. Andrews' work in Flowers in the Attic," spoke volumes to me. Each word on the page evoked an emotion from me. Whether it be anger, sadness or even happiness. She knows exactly how to get a reaction out of her readers.
During those three years, the four young children, Chris, Cathy, Cory and Carrie had to learn how to survive on their own without a mother. Not only did they survive without a mother who cared, but their own grandmother was in on the plot to keep them hidden in the one room away from the grandfather.
In those three years, Cory died while being locked away in that one room with his brothers and sisters. Despite the mothers' promises and encouragement they no longer had faith or trust in her like they had in the beginning. Everything became clear as a bell as to their mothers true nature. Do you wish to find out if the four remaining children survived their years locked away? You need to visit your local book store or library and pick up a copy. You will not be disappointed.
