Although horror thrillers and medical thrillers are generally my favorite topic when reading, my favorite novelist writes action thrillers. Matthew Reilly writes books that become fast-paced and hard to put down, making Reilly my favorite novelist.
Matthew Reilly self-published his first book, Contest, when he was just 19 years old and was discovered by a major publisher. Since then, he's written more books, the majority following two major characters in different story lines. One book, Ice Station , had to be reprinted six times just in the first two years as the demand was so high.
Matthew Reilly is an avid collector of movie memorabilia and participates in many charity events. My favorite quote by Reilly includes a quote he quoted from someone else, "There is no such thing as an aspiring writer. You are a writer. Period. I was told that once, and have never forgotten it." That quote was given during an interview for the book Area 7 .
With horror thrillers and medical thrillers, I actually need to concentrate a bit more at times for some of the storyline and events. Matthew Reilly gives an easy reading experience without sacrificing the thrill of the thriller. I can escape to another setting and feel like I'm inside of it. I can almost picture the characters and scenes in my head.
I can't pick one favorite novel from Matthew Reilly as I really have two favorites. The first Reilly book I ever read was Ice Station . It's about an aircraft found under an ice station in Antarctica and the race of special forces from around the world to gain control of the pr ize. A cold, brutal landscape, killer whales, and special forces units from several countries with their own high-tech weapons battle it out to see who will win.
Contest , Reilly's first book, is also one of my favorite books. One being from each of several different worlds is put together in the New York City Public Library to battle it out. Good descriptions of the characters and a lot of great thriller action.
Matthew Reilly is my favorite writer because of the thrill in his stories and the ease and flow while reading. I can truly relax while reading Reilly's work, though sometimes I am on the edge of my seat as well. Descriptive characters and action make Reilly my favorite novelist.
