My Favorite Poem: To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time

Rachel Heller
I love poetry and I have been writing it since I was eight years old. I have been influenced to write poetry by reading Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. However, my favorite poem was written by Robert Herrick. i heard this poem when I was in high school. In honor of National Poetry Month, I will discuss the poem called To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time.

Robert Herrick was born in 1591 in England. He become a disciple of Ben Jonson, who was another poet. Herrick liked to write poetry about love and English country life. in addition. although he wrote many poems about women. the women in these poems were fictional.

This poem is about making the most out of your life. Time is fleeting; therefore, we must live each day to the fullest. We don't know when we will die. My favorite line in the poem is as follows:
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may."
This is my favorite line in the poem because it captures the poem's message beautifully. The poem's message is simply that we must take chances in life and contribute to the world in some fashion. I also love this poem because it was featured in the film Dead Poets Society. this is one of my favorite films.

Poetry has been a passion of mine for a long time. It started due to an author named Seuss and it grew thanks to Shel Silverstein. However, Robert Herrick's To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time is my favorite poem because of its life lesson. Its life lesson is to make the most out of life.
