Poppy Seed Filling

1 c. poppyseed filling (ground fine) (if you don't have a grinder then crush very fine)
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla

Bring milk to a boil, add salt and poppy seed. Then add sugar and cook slowly for approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla and cinnamon. Cool.

This can be used for filling for Kolache's. If you make homemade sweet rolls, spread out your dough and then spread a layer of poppyseed filling on top of dough. Then roll back up. Cut into rolls and let rise.

This is also great on top of cheesecake or any type of breads and bakery. This can also be added to your cheesecake mixture when mixing.

Rhubarb Jello Salad

2 c. cut up rhubarb
1/4 c. cold water
1/2 c. sugar
3 oz. pkg strawberry Jello
1 c. hot water
2 Tbsp crushed pineapple
1 apple cut up

Cook the rhubarb in the 1/3 c. water. Add sugar. Dissolve Jello in 1 c. hot water, then add to the rhubarb. Add the rest of the ingredients, pour into bowl and chill until set.

Mary's Hamburger Soup

1 1/2 lbs hamburger - browned with onion
2 tsp. dried parsley
1 box chicken stock
2 parts water
4 to 5 carrots - diced
2 stalks celery - diced
2 to 3 large potatoes cut into small cubes
1/2 can whole corn (or 1 small can) - drain
1 can of green beans (cut) - drain
1 can of peas - drain
1 beef bouillon cube
salt & pepper to taste

Brown hamburger with the onion. Then add the chicken stock, parsley, celery, carrots, potatoes and beef bouillon cube. Cook till all the vegetable's are tender. Then add the can of corn, peas and green beans. Salt and Pepper to taste.

You can let this simmer a short time or you can let it simmer a couple of hours. The longer you simmer the better the taste (if you want to let it simmer, I would say to simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Enjoy

Nancy, try round steak, cut it into real small pieces and brown it add the same ingredients. Just cook it for several hours so the round steak gets tender.
