My Favorite Restaurants Near Michigan State University

Top 3 Affordable Favorite Places to Eat

This is an article based on my personal experiences. Please don't think that these are the only three restaurants to eat at in East Lansing. For more information please look here.

Lou & Harry's has a Greek deli style eatery. You can dine in or take out. They have three locations in the area all on the north side of campus. They have daily specials that include some of the best bargains you will find anywhere. Their hoagies are big enough to feed two people. My personal favorite is the gyro with fries or salad and a 32 oz drink for $3.99 plus tax. You won't find a better tasting gyro for the price.

If you are looking for a spicy dish, try Thai Kitchen at 2843 E Grand River Ave just east of Hagadorn on the south side of Grand River next to Honey Baked Ham. Thai food has Indian and Chinese influences. The locals have recommended Thai Kitchen as the best tasting food in the city. I have been to a lot of other Thai restaurants and Thai Kitchen not only has the best quality food, they also have the lowest prices. Also, the restaurant gives you enough food to last for two meals and save the rest for the next meal to cut your meal expenses. My favorite dish is the Mus-Mun Kai: Chunks of chicken breast, potato and pineapple in tamarind curry. This meal is $7.25 plus tax and will cost up to $11 and other Thai restaurants. A carry out order wait time averages ten minutes. They are closed Sundays.

If you have access to a vehicle and would like the best pizza and calzones in the area, head 6 miles East down Grand River Ave to Spagnuolo's at 662 W Grand River Ave, Okemos. Pizzas start at $4.59 and come in 9", 12", and 16" sizes with 39 toppings to choose from. The calzones start at $3.99. The wait time is about 25-30 minutes so call ahead and have it ready to be picked up. You can also dine in and have some delicious appetizers while you wait. The zucchini slices ($3.99) are excellent. On Wednesday for $5.99 you can get the All You Can Eat Pasta special. The special includes your choice of noodles in Marinara or Tomato sauce. This comes with soup or salad and foccacia. I recommend the chicken tortellini soup. It is more filling than the side salad. Spagnuolo's also makes an excellent Chicken Caesar Salad. They are also closed Sundays. If you really want their pizza on a Sunday you can head three miles east to 1268 East Grand River in Williamston and you will find Spag's Bar & Grill. They also have a banquet hall there. They are closed Mondays.
