My Favourite Podcasts

Garro
I have become a big fan of Podcasts over the last few years. I listen to them all the time either on my ipod or straight from my Mac. The great thing about them is that they are free and they cover every possible subject. I use iTunes which makes it really easy to find and download these great time-wasters. Here are six of my current favourites;

BBC Documentaries

www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/docarchive/

This Podcast delivers the best in BBC radio documentaries. It covers a vast array of subjects from around the world. These shows are less than half an hour in length and are always informative.

RTE Documentaries

www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/

This is probably of more interest to Irish people, but these well-made shows are a selection of the best radio documentaries from the national radio network. Subjects are varied but focus mostly on Irish life. It is a nice Podcast for Irish people who live abroad.

In Our Time

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/

In Our Time is a podcast of the BBC Radio 4 show of the same name. Each episode is comprised of Melvin Bragg discussing with expert guests on a variety of subjects from classical literature to the industrial revolution. I always feel a bit smarter after listening to one of these shows.

Forever Fitness

foreverfitness.libsyn.com/

A great podcast for anyone interested in fitness. These shows cover a wide range of health topics and are fun to listen to as the presenters don't take themselves too seriously.

Pen on Fire

penonfire.blogspot.com/

This is usually an hour long show which interviews different writers. Most shows have two writers, one in each half of the show, talking about their own work and the craft of writing. This is an excellence resource for anyone interested in books or how they are put together. The guests cover a wide range of genres and tend to open up quite a bit on these relaxed shows.

Writing Excuses

These shows are only fifteen minutes long, but come packed with lots of useful advice for anyone interested in becoming a writer. These Podcasts tend to be fun as well as informative.
