My First Born Son

Bailey Black
Why must I always be kept in the dark
I'd much rather be kept abreast
You say that you just got your marks back today
I say, "What? Did you have a test?"

You go to your classes, forget all your books
You bring homework home if you choose
Sometimes you lose the most ludicrous things
"Uh, Dude weren't you wearing your shoes?"

You get decent grades, but with languid attempts
Full potential has yet to be seen
Phone calls from teachers and crumpled up notes
It's just the way it's always been

My mom likes to tell me she knows how it feels
"He's your brother right down to the letter!"
I think of the trouble that he got into
And oddly, I don't feel much better!

Are you sure you are not describing my son??

here's hoping he ends up like your bro then and I wish you many bottles of hair dye to cover the grays that are most certainly beginning to sprout!

Hee! This is another LOL-er. My brother was/is much more competitive than I--West Point, law school and all. But I'm happier! :)

I've got five boys. They are all wonderful... and crazy. I loved the line about how you don't feel much better when they're compared to someone grown now. My mom is constantly reminding me of the things I did when I was little. Instead of being consoled, I am simply amazed she let me live.

My brother's fine now too, but he certainly gave my mom some gray hairs! My son is 12.

How old is he? Like my dad said below, my brother never cared much about school. I was the straight-A nerd. But my brother's doing just fine now. He doesn't write as well as I do, though. ;)
