My First Concert was a Boyband Called 'N Sync

I am almost embarrassed to say that my first concert was to a teenage boyband in the summer of 1999. Embarrassing because I was thirty years of age when I went to see the famous 'N Sync pop group that consisted of five young talented teenage boys.

I did not have any intentions of making this my first and last concert, sadly that is just how it has worked out. At that time my then pre - teenage daughter had a crush on all these young boys especially Justin Timberlake so I decided to give her a special birthday treat and bought her tickets to the 'N Sync Concert at the Jones Beach Theater.

I was so happy and if not more eager than she was to be at this spectacular place. Getting out of the car and seeing all the excitement on everyone's face made me ecstatic at the thought of attending a concert. There were photographers, loud music and so many happy people walking the grounds. Enthusiasm just filled the air.

Then the best part of the concert happens at the very beginning when the opening number was the Sugar Hill Gang. I sit there and tap my daughter at least 100 times asking her "do you know who these guys are?" She stares at me as if I am insane and then the most famous song comes up the one and only "Rapper's Delight." I said a hip hop the hippie to the hip hop, you don't stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie etc. She is embarrassed and I can't stop singing...Go figure. At this point, I was in heaven and felt that this was the best concert ever, but it wasn't over yet.

I sit there with my chest pounding and what felt like tears welling up in my eyes then the boys of 'N Sync come out JC Chasez , Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. Thinking that I am not so hip on the young pop group surprisingly I know most of the songs but the one that I remember the most is "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You." The reason I remember this song so vividly at the time, and as well as today is that I recall looking at my daughter and just saying to myself that I would never forget this day because "God must have spent a little more time on my girl."

Therefore, my first and last concert will have lasting memories forever and maybe subconsciously I do not want to have any other concert memories, as this was the best ever!

Amazing how certain things just stay in our brains for life! Sounds like fun!

Wow...this is cool. My first concert, many many years ago, was when I was in high school to see Chicago at Carnegie Hall with a first date of someone I still have a place for in my heart!

But 'N Sync...that was my son's first concert when he was about 10 or 11. I believe the concert was their last before they broke up. It was amazing. Puff Daddy (P.Diddy, Sean Combs, etc.) was the warm up. I had never even heard of him...guess it was my age..almost 50. He was fantastic! Then came the fathers of the 'NSync band to come out and do an act. Also amazing. Then the headliners...I wasn't crazy about 'N Sync until I was at the concert. They actually had a part (maybe your concert did as well) for the adult crowd...oldies, including dressing up as the Beatles in various clothes they wore over the years...from the early 60's to the psychedelic clothes they wore in the early 70's. It was a concert my son and I still talk about (he's almost 18, now).
