My First Ticket

Tara Darity
Speeding down the road
Feeling lost in a song
Seen the blue lights flashing
I knew something was wrong

So as I pulled over
And I started to worry
My anxiety kicked in
Things became blurry

Trying to remain calm
As the window went down
He said good morning
I looked up with a frown

Informed me I was speeding
Which I already knew
Gathered my information
Back to his car to review

I am watching the clock
Don't really want to wait
He is taking forever
And I'm already late

Comes back with my ticket
Says have a nice day
Ruined my clean record
I sadly drive away

Your poem does an excellent job of capturing the sinking feeling of that first speeding ticket.

Good poem! Sorry to hear about your ticket!

I've never had a ticket for a moving violation and I've been driving for about 30 years. My insurence premiums run about $100.00 for liability for every six months. It pays to slow down.
