* Cooked by Jeff Henderson: Cooked is a nonfiction book about a man who learns to cook and sell cocaine as a boy and as a result, he spends some time in prison; while, in prison, he works in the kitchen doing various jobs. Therefore, when he is released from prison, Jeff decides to become a chef. He does become a chef after much hard work and rejection. Cooked is a wonderful book for reading on a plane because it is a triumph over tragedy story.
* Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold: Lovely Bones is a novel about a murdered 14 year old girl named Susie Salmon. The story is told from Susie's perspective as she watches her family and friends heal from and deal with her death. Lovely Bones is great in flight reading entertainment because it is a spell binding book and a page turner. Reading Lovely Bones on a plane will make the time fly by before you know it.
* The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs: The Friday Night Knitting Club is about Georgia Walker, who owns a knitting shop and her daughter Dakota. Georgia is always willing to help women with all of their knitting needs and concerns. This willingness leads to the informal formation of The Friday Night Knitting Club. This novel is also about the power of friendship. This is a wonderful novel for traveling because it is quick read and you will forget that you are on a plane while reading it. Moreover, The Friday Night Knitting Club will make you think of all of the friends and family that you will visit at your final destination.
* In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson: This book tells about the author's hilarious travels through Australia. In A Sunburned Country is a must read book for travel because it deals with travel and reading it on a plane might inspire travelers to book their next flight to Australia for some shrimp on the barbeque.
* Julia and Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes, and 1 tiny apartment kitchen by Julie Powell: Julie and Julia tells the true story of a woman who is inspired to cook all of Julia Child's recipes and write about it. This book is great for reading on a plane because it is very funny so it will keep you amused through the duration of the flight. Reading on a plane might inspire you to learn to cook or read another book the next time you fly.
Reading and traveling are two pastimes that can and often are done together. This is because traveling on a plane for many hours can be boring. Therefore, due to the fact that I am both a frequent flier and an avid reader, I have given people my list of must read books for in flight entertainment; happy reading and flying everyone.
