MY Freelance Writing Experience: The damage,
Often ridiculed for my choice in employment even told I'm unemployed I continue working every day because I know that no matter what is said the harder I work the more I earn, and I continue to learn something new every day.
Is perseverance as often rewarded as we would like to believe? How many times have you spent months maybe even years working for an employer, mastered the art of your work and accomplished it with minimal oversight, and was it rewarded?
MY Freelance Writing Experience: Proven competency doesn't pay off anymore.
The idea that proven competency should be rewarded was thrown out the window a long time ago. In the current working world people are rewarded just for showing up every day, there is no benefit to working harder than the guy next to you, nor are there repercussions for not working as hard.
MY Freelance Writing Experience: Working for yourself.
In order to be successful you must work for yourself in this day and age, in working for yourself no matter how little you make, at least you can see the direct results of working harder. When you work for yourself, you have the option to slack off, but slacking off will not get you to your goals.
I would work for 1 penny per word simply because at 1 penny per word I know that what I get back is directly proportionate that that which I gave. At one penny a word my work may not be as good as 10 pennies per word however. At one penny a word I may feel compelled to rush out as much content as I can without thought of the indemnifications of such actions, because that's what would be required to make a living.
In short I choose this career for myself. Not to make others happy, but to make myself happy. How many people these days can honestly say they enjoy what they do? How many people can say that their perseverance is rewarded every day of their lives?
MY Freelance Writing Experience: Closing,
I once worked in a factory for a year, and in that time, though I broke many records and achieved more than could be expected of me, I never received any thanks or compensation. There was no reward for my hard work, only physical ailments brought on by working too hard desperately seeking their approval, or any form of gratitude. I would take the one comment from a total stranger saying that something I wrote helped them over a weekly paycheck (which says nothing more than that I showed up) any day of the year.
