Instead of "resolutions," I have set before myself, some goals for 2009. I use the word "goals" because I feel the word is indicative of things one wants to do in the future. However, one is continually working toward them. The word "resolution" makes me think of things one resolves to do, but never does. "Goals" creates a more positive connotation for me, and helps me to keep my eyes on the prize, if you don't mind the cliche. Goals are also things that, if not completed immediately, it's okay. They're an ongoing process, where one reaches to achieve them.
With that being said, I think I have set some simple and achievable goals for 2009. Here they are, if you're interested.
1. Stretch everyday, to reduce aches, and increase flexibility.
2. Take a walk for at least ten minutes a day, to get in some exercise, as well as clear my head from the craziness that is around me.
3. Write at least one thing-- anything-- everyday, to foster my creativity and fuel my passion for writing.
4. Join Weight Watchers and lose as much weight that comes. NO "X amount of pounds by X date." That only leaves room for failure and negative feelings.
5. Cook more often, to foster interest in culinary arts. Also, make an organized book of favorite recipes. Eat out less... Once a week, or none some weeks.
6. Stick with the new, simplified budget that my husband and I made, without stretching it too much, except for special occasions. SAVE MONEY! Find stuff to do for free, or for very little money.
7. Do more to help the environment. Eventually cut down on using plastic bags, bottles, etc. in general. Recycle more items. Go more green!
8. Stay focused on my spirituality. Not let everyday business get in the way of my daily worship. Finish reading through the Bible before 2009 is over (already started in late 2008.)
9. Read more. At least two or three books a month. Read all of Paulo Coelho's books (my favorite author.) Perhaps even start over on, and actually finish the Harry Potter series this time.
10. Drink more water. I've come up with this funny plan, that just might work: For every soda I drink, I have to drink one glass of water.
These are just ten goals that I have come up with thusfar. I am still coming up with more. I don't think one has to set goals or "resolutions" before the new year starts, for them to be "New Year's resolutions." I think that improving yourself, and becoming a better person, is an ongoing process that can be started any time of the year. These are my starter goals, and I plan on doing more,
Happy New Year, everyone!
