My Good Morning Box

I Walked Right Past......

Dan Reveal
In the firm foundations of my ultimate being,
I walked right past those creepy glass displays.
And though I'd never deprive others the gift of seeing,
I reserve the right to decide who should go and who should stay.

There's no point to make soundproof the obvious,
that which seems so pretty until it has time to decay.
"I wish I knew," said the sea that was just like one of us,
"whether it's better to borrow money from a stranger or pay by own way."

But if your winter coat doesn't match your summer socks,
you can send your apologies to all the world's clocks.
I don't care as long as I can pick up the moments of our life together
and put them in my good morning box.

No time is best when you have to shave too close,
when the bar stool helped to pack the harpsichord away.
I made peace that I'd never be the man she chose--
I only wanted one chance in this lifetime to play and play.

I made peace that I'd never be the man she chose--
I only wanted one chance in this lifetime to play and play.

But if your winter coat doesn't match your summer socks,
you can send your apologies to all the world's clocks,
I don't care as long as I can pick up the moments of our life together
and put them in my good morning box.

Excellent and very touching. :-) Never be sad you weren't who was being looked for...rejoice that somewhere, there is the right one for you. Fantastic poem and you are always such a joy to read. Write on, my friend. Bravo.

Your talent is without compare. Thankyou for this beautiful expression of words. Just following the flow is a wonderful experment in controlled, random thinking.

With all its' complexities and visuals, I found myself slipping into a light meditation. Easily can visualize it a the lead work in a chapbook of the same name.
