My Grandfather was Hatched!

Hunter Darden
My grandfather did not have a belly button! He took delight in telling everyone that he was the only man alive who was hatched. If the real truth be known, his naval was actually removed because of an infection later in life. I suppose, it is our oddities and our willingness to talk about it that make humans so interesting.

I asked around to see if any of my friends had any such body peculiarities of which they wanted to admit. One admitted to having been born with three front teeth. Her dentist pulled the middle one and her orthodontist immediately slapped on braces.

I also know someone with two webbed middle toes. Another has an extra bone in the heel of a foot which makes buying shoes a challenging experience. Another had a third mark on his chest that looks like a pimple, but he was told it was the beginning of a third nipple.

An unusual genetic twist is a father and his son who have moles on the exact same spot on their chests. Another friend's five children all have the same shaped birthmark on the back of each of their necks.

One friend has an unusual birthmark on his lower back. He said it looks like a Van Gogh maroon splash that looks amazingly like a flying goose with a long beak and neck. (A funny footnote: Several years ago, a dermatologist noticed it while doing the excursion over his body looking for oddities. She spotted the red splotch and said, "Now, how long has this been here." He, wittily, said, "On Friday, it will be fifty-three years!" Too funny. ) The bottom line to keep in mind is that it would be such a boring world if we humans were perfect species. It takes all types to make the world go '‹Å"round. It only makes this world a more interesting and unique sphere to enjoy and good fodder for conversation.
