My Hand and Heart

Donna Cavanagh
If I could make your life perfect
If I could take away all fear
If I could make sure that nothing went wrong
And keep safe all that you hold dear

I guess I would be the perfect mother
The perfect wife, daughter, sister or friend
But I do not hold most of life's answers
I have not enough knowledge to even pretend

We all go through rough patches
Times of uncertainty that bring great pain
Where we feel the world is singling us out
where loss seems to overtake gain

But the tide will turn and the seas will calm
And self-doubt will fade away
And you will find that the times of distress
Gave you the strength to face each new day

While you are waiting for the sun to rise
To deliver you from the dark and cold
My hand and heart are here for your protection
They are yours to cling to, embrace and hold
