My Hiding Place-

M.S.Medina

I slide through the door not making a sound.
I close the door quickly hoping not to be found.
I turn on the light and sit quietly down,
The bright light surrounds me,
my smile erases my frown.

I light a pink candle and breathe deeply in.
I pick up my book and my reading begins.
I can sit here for hours if they all let me be
No one shall come between my special place and me.

I carry blissfully on reading and peaceful,
then someone taps on the door
My duties try to reclaim me.
I try to resume reading once more.

The bangs and the shouts they grow louder.
The screaming and fighting increase.
My concentration starts to flounder.
I finally surrender my peace.

I put the book down. The candle, out I blow
How did they find me? I really don't know.
I tried to be quiet, I tried don't you see?
Then somebody yells
"Hey Mom, I gotta pee!"

Yes, this is something that all parents, I believe, can relate to.
