Much too often I fall into the habit of devaluing myself and my abilities. I am suspect of or put myself through mental interrogation in regard to positive things that others may say about me. These limiting fears spin me around so quickly that I can get to a point where my imaginative, creative equilibrium is left in a near constant state of imbalance.
By challenging myself to see my writing as "good enough" to be introduced to a broader-based readership and working past my unrealistic fears, answering Lyn's questions give me the chance to show others a side of me that may be surprising to some, and hopefully inspiring to others. It also allows me to view myself from a different perspective-that of the reader.
I tell my students that I "won't ask (them) to do anything that I am not willing to do." This keeps me honest. It keeps me pushing past limiting standards I unwittingly set up time and again. It keeps my door unlocked. It prepares my flood gate to be opened.
Keep testing the waters, Coral. Keep pushing back against the things that keep you from accomplishing all you wish to accomplish. This is what I must keep reminding myself.
Yesterday was the 99th anniversary of the birth of Ronald Reagan. In my opinion, he was a man of greatness and I was proud to have served in the military while he was President of the United States--my Commander-in-Chief.
I loved his sense of humor. I also loved his direct, common sense of approach to life. I loved listening to him speak.
"There are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits to the human capacity for intelligence, imagination, and wonder." ~Ronald Reagan
When I feel limited, it is usually because of my own fear of success. But when I remember to keep myself open to thinking, learning, imagining, and wondering, there is nothing that is outside of my capacity.
Thank you for that reminder, Mr. President. And thank you, Ms. Lomasi.
