My IPhone: Some of the Cool Things I Can Do with It!

A. Ormont
I was one of those people who didn't even have a cell phone and didn't feel the need for one. Then, I got one only because I'd have to drop my kids off and someone might have to call me about them. But, just recently, I finally broke down and bought an iPhone. I never knew all it could do or what fun I could have with one until I started playing with it.

First of all, I have found my iPhone entertaining. I have downloaded some of my favorite CDs onto the phone and I can listen to my favorite music where ever I go. I love music and this is a great plus for me. In addition, as far as entertainment goes, I can play games. An icon that was on the phone when I got it was for the "App Store." I had no idea what the App Store was until I started exploring. I found that I could download games and other software. Much of it is free even and that is really cool.

Some of my favorite games on my iPhone are as follows:
**Boggle: This was a 99 cent download of the traditional board game. It is very addictive as I try to score higher and higher.
**Words with Friends: This game has a free and a paid version. I have the free version and have to look at ads sometimes but this is okay. This game is very similar to Scrabble except the board is a little differently laid out. You can play against actual friends or you can play against a random opponent.
**Backgammon and Othello: Both traditional games that I enjoy playing on my iPhone

And, the kids like other games and use my phone to play them. They like things like the Smurfs Village, Coin Dozer, Angry Birds, and many more.

In addition, I have an app that helps me view Facebook. I love to be able to catch up with friends on Facebook while waiting in the carpool line or in a doctor's office. I feel like I am doing something useful and my time is not totally wasted!

Similarly, I have found that I can download an app for Netflix (to which I already have a subscription), and watch movies right on my phone. This is great for my kids on car trips and such. (I do have a car charger so that my battery does not go totally dead)

As far as practical goes, there are those types of apps too. I recently downloaded Skype to my phone. Now, you'd wonder why one would need to skype from a phone and I'll tell you. First, let me tell you that skype is a phone application where you are actually using your computer line or wifi connection to talk to the other person. Why would you need this on a phone? Well, my husband recently traveled to Japan and the phone calls were $1.69 PER MINUTE! Since we both were able to download skype, as long as he was able to get a wifi connection, he did not have to pay anything! It was great!

Of course, the iPhone also is able to access websites. This is handy if you need to look something up while you are out. For example, I recently was in Walmart and realized I needed the name of a product I had read about on a website I frequent. I was able to take out my phone, pull up the website and find the name of the product and then easily purchase the correct item rather than getting the wrong thing and having to return it later. I can also use the internet to look up an address if I have forgotten it and even map it so I can find the location. The IPhone can also tell me where I am and give me directions in relation to where I am currently located. This is great!!!

Of course, first and foremost, the iPhone is a phone. I can call my friends and anyone else who may need a call. I can store all my contacts in my iPhone phonebook. I can see who called and I can get voicemail messages.

The iPhone is something I no longer think I could do without. I love the convenience and the ease of use as well as the many great applications and things I can do with this device!!!
