My ITunes Five Star List

63 of My Most Favorite Songs

Ultimax
This is a list of my iTunes Five Star Playlist. Overall I have 16, 083 songs on my iTunes. That is a little over 70 gigs of music! If left to play from start to finish it will take a little over 45 ½ days to finish. I only listen to less than 10% of them on a regular basis. The songs I listen to are my Top Favs. Only 63 out of 1389 of these songs have earned a 5 star rating from me. I would like to share these songs in this list I've made.

Wreckless Love

Alicia Keys

As I Am

This song has a bit of a old school R&B feel. Its bouncy and charmingly soulful. It's a love song almost unlike any other.

Stolen Moments

Alicia Keys

MTV Unplugged: Alicia Keys

From the brilliant MTV Unplugged live performance, this Jazzy song features elegant solo deliveries. It is a driving force of soul and Jazz in a contemporary setting.

Rolling Down My Face

Amerie

Touch

With a sample from Roy Ayers' "Searching," this song delivers a Jazzy twist on contemporary R&B.

Moments In Love (Quiet Storm Version)

Art of Noise

This is a sexier jazzier version of the original avant garde version of the song by the same artists. It is a very smooth Jazz song.

B-Boy Bouillabaisse

Beastie Boys

Paul's Boutique

This is a musical collage of different songs, "59 Chrystie Street," "Get on the Mic," "Stop That Train," "Year and a Day," "Hello Brooklyn," "Dropping Names," "Lay It on Me," "Mike on the Mic," and "A.W.O.L." Many elements of Hip Hop are in this on this 12 minute track.

Bit Rate Variations In B-Flat (Girl Remix)

Beck

Gameboy Variations (Hell Yes EP)

Using a supped up 8 and 16 bit video game systems, Beck constructed a peculiar retro sounding remix to his hit song "Girl." It is a weird, jamming song with the lyrics still intact.

Sunday Séance

Blockhead

Music by Cavelight

This trip hoppy song has a constant soothing groove that can put you at ease. It is a calming Electronic Hip Hop song by the brilliant underground beat maker.

Insomniac Olympics

Blockhead

Music by Cavelight

This is another Trip Hoppy song by the same artist. This song can be heard during the program on Cartoon Network.

Left Side Drive

Boards of Canada

Trans Canada Highway

This is one of those songs that come with directions. You have to listen to it driving either at night or alone on an open highway! The title says it all! It is a great Ambient Electric chill song!

I'll Be Good to You

The Brothers Johnson

Look Out for #1

This funky smooth R&B goldie is an all time favorite with most R&B listeners. It has a groovy bass line which is what I like best about it.

Thelonius

Common and Slum Village

Like Water for Chocolate

With some beats from legendary beat maker J Dilla (Jay Dee from Slum Village) Common, along with the rest of Slum Village, deliver a Jazzy inner city Hip Hop session. Great Lakes freestyling rapping!

Chapter 13 (Rich Man Vs. Poor Man)

Common and Ynot

Resurrection

Using samples from several songs like Archie Whitewater's "Cross Country" and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's "The Message," this song tells the two stories of life on both ends of the social status stick. It's a very creative Hip Hop song.

Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)

Crystal Waters

Surprise

La Da Dee, La Da Da! A catchy house song beat and varying synths. Add all those things together and you get this catchy song. Unforgettable!

Burnin'/Too Long

Daft Punk

Alive 2007

Of this whole live album one song in particular stuck out from the rest to me. It was the highlight of the album in my opinion. It had a great build, a touch of Disco, and catchy vocals. It is a very hype Dance Electric song!

You Never Know

The Deadbeats

Nightmares On Wax presents WAX ON records

This is a song that is rarely heard of. It sounds like it has sampled from a Gospel record! But it's Hip Hop and it's so hard! It is a smooth Hip Hop beat!

My Old Piano

Diana Ross

Diana

On top of the impressive instrumentalists in this song, the lyrics in this song are wonderful. As an instrumentalist myself I can deeply sympathize with the lyrics of this song.

Changeling/Transmission 1

DJ Shadow

Entroducing...

This is a completely sampled record. This song is completely sampled. But it is put together so brilliantly. It is ne of the Best songs from his best album in my opinion. The ending sequence is the best part of the song.

Track 11

DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist

Brainfreeze Breaks

I have the mp3 version of the vinyl cut so I'm not sure if this song has a title but here is a link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnlZKO8MU6Y. It has one of the most impressive song builds I ever heard. I'm not even sure if you would call this Hip Hop with it's 70's retro feel.

Lake Release

Eligh and The Grouch

No More Greener Grasses

This Hip Hop song comes in like a beast but chills down and gets to the nitty gritty. It is an unusual song but has a very chillaxing beat. Unheard of artists usually produce very good quality songs like this one.

Galaxy In Janaki

Flying Lotus

Cosmogramma

This is currently my number one favorite song of all time! FlyLo is an artist who is also heard on This song is a masterpiece of so much going on at one time! My only gripe is that it is far to short for me.

Same Ol? Thing

FORCE OF NATURE

FORCE OF NATURE 2

This is a very tranquil song. It loops quiet a lot for a song without vocals or lyrics but it is something you can never get tired of hearing.

Kodama

FORCE OF NATURE, Nujabes, and Fat Jon

Samurai Champloo Music Record: Impression

This is a short interlude from the hit anime's soundtrack, Samurai Champloo. This is a funky little Jazz bit that I believe is a sin that it's not longer than two minutes.

I'd Have You Anytime

George Harrison

All Things Must Pass

I hardly listen to what this former Beatle has to say. But with Bob Dylan teaming up with him I couldn't ignore him any longer. This song is so beautiful. The guitar riffs are just as sincere as the lyrics.

Lift Him Up

Hezikiah Walker and the LFC

The Essential Hezekiah Walker

I am not the biggest Gospel music fan but if Gospel was secular this song would be a club banger! It gets even the most non Christian lifting their hands!

Hovi Baby

Jay-Z

The Blueprint 2: The Gift and The Curse

This song let me know that Jay-Z is serious about his music. With the beat by Just Blaze this song was undeniably a great Rap song!

Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer

Jay-Z and Linkin Park

Collision Course

A record out of know where, this collaboration was the best thing that happen to music since Run DMC and Aerosmith. This is the last song on the EP and is the most hardcore song out there. It was a very clever mash up.

A Milli Remix

Lil Wayne and Cory Gunz

A Milli has been remixed so many times but this remix was the best in my opinion. Cory Gunz rips it up with his 1000mph rapping style over the hard beat.

Doin it

LL Cool J and LeShaun

Mr. Smith

This is a naughty song. It was sampled for Grace Jones' "My Jamacan Guy." It is s good song to listen to while...well, you know.

Go Go Gadget Flow

Lupe Fiasco

The Cool

Lupe Fiasco is one of my favorite Hip Hop artists of all time. He can change up his style at will. In this song he uses his Twista rapping style to throw down, from the same stylings in his mix tape song "Twisted."

Failure

Lupe Fiasco

Revenge Begins (Revenge of Nerds)

In one of his mix tapes, Lupe brings the sickness in one of his freestyles. It's amazing how he uses his metaphors and how they make so much sense if you really listen closely.

Dead Presidents Resurrected

Lupe Fiasco

Touch the Sky Mix Tape

Another song from his mix tapes, this song is homage to Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents 1 and 2." The beat fits so well with his style

Switch Science Project

Lupe Fiasco

Touch the Sky Mix Tape

This song is a giant gimmick. What he does is he is conducting a science project by switching his rapping style and content. Every time you hear him say "Switch" he switches his style. It is an extremely unique song and it's all over the "Tippin" beat by Slim Thug, Mike Jones, and Paul Wall.

Dear Fall

Lupe Fiasco

Touch the Sky Mix Tape

With the beat from Jay-Z's "Dear Summer," Lupe drops a softer and solemn freestyle. The production for this album was so low budget that you could hear cars and airplanes going by in this song, clear as day. It does a plus for the song in my opinion.

Jedi Mind Tricks

Lupe Fiasco

Touch the Sky Mix Tape

This song has an excellent instrumental. I'm not exactly sure where it came from but Lupe speaks some undeniable truth over it.

Track 1

Madlib

Shades of Blue

The Mad Beat Conductor! This is another song that I have an mp3 version of a vinyl record. There are three songs and the intro on the first track. All the songs are sampled from records from Blue Note recordings. The songs on this track are "Slim's Return," Distant Land," and "Mystic Bounce." It was because of "Distant Land" I gave it a Five Star rating.

Chrome Gadget

Masaru Setsumaru

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 OST

Even though it's a 16 bit song from a video game, it is too awesome to ignore and I'm not embarrassed to say that! If this was played by a live band it would be amazing! The bass line is so funky with the slaps and riffs.

Staff Credits

Masaru Setsumaru

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 OST

Michael Jackson should've received his credit for this song but controversy just gets the best of people. This sounds really similar to Michael Jackson's a Stranger in Moscow but faster. Maybe that's why I like it so much.

Doomsday

MF Doom

Operation Doomsday

This song barrows from Sade's "Color of Love." This is the second reason why I love this song so much. The first reason is that it is a MF Doom song. He is another one of my all time favorite Hip Hop artists.

Grand Metropolis

Crush 40

Sonic Heroes OST

If you haven't guessed by now I'm a Sonic the Hedgehog fan. The bass is phenomenal. This song is so great but I'm afraid this was the only thing I liked about the Sonic Heroes game.

The Christmas Song

Nat King Cole

Everyone heard of this song and most people would say that it is his. This iconic song is sung by many artists but Nat King Cole made it his. It was recorded three times by him and is by far the only person who sings it the best.

Kumomi

Nujabes

Metaphorical Music

This song is so calming and tranquil. With its piano and string session parts added with a Hip Hop drum beat, it just puts the soul at ease.

Peaceland

Nujabes

Metaphorical Music

The late Japanese Hip Hop recording producer outdid himself with this peaceful piece of music. It has Jazzy horns and transitioning strings all over a Hip Hop beat. The song saves itself from being a loop fest with a variation of how it's played. It is a song you can listen to without listening to it.

Mystline

Nujabes and Fat Jon

Samurai Champloo Music Record: Departure

The protagonist in this song is definitely the piano. This song is built around it! It is a relaxing song that can put anyone at ease. The ending sequence is exciting and bouncy and it calms right back down. It is a beautiful song and a great collaboration piece.

Highs 2 Lows

Nujabes and Cise Starr

Metaphorical Music

It is hard to follow what Cise Starr is rapping about because of his consent flow (he flows like a river of water) and the beat greatly complements his style. He raps about the cosmos, struggling, God, and life in general. You might be able to find something else if you listen closely enough!

Free Rider

Quiet Village

Silent Movie

This song sounds like something you would hear in a vast hidden utopia found in a desert somewhere. This is such a peaceful song. One of my most listened to songs

Heaven and Hell

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...

With help from Wu Tang affiliates, Ghostface Killah for rapping and Blue Raspberry for singing vocals, and a sample from Syl Johnson's "Could I Be Falling in Love?" Raekwon delivers some of the Wu Tang flavor people crave for in this 1994 hit!

Fidelity

Regina Spektor

Begin to Hope

The beautiful and talented Regina Spektor delivers this happy-sad love song. It's unique and undeniably catchy. It is an interesting turn to Anti-Folk music.

Buildings

Regina Spektor

11:11

This song is about a pathetic relationship between a couple and how some of the small things that they do have so much meaning behind them. That's what I got from it and I love it so much. On top of that it features a happy piano melody combined with a solemnly complementary cello. It is a great piece of work.

After Hours

Ronny Jordan

The Antidote

Acid Jazz artist, Ronny Jordan, delivers this smooth, smooth song. This song is so smooth you can literally spread it on your toast! It is a Jazz song I recommend listing on a rainy day.

Who's Theme

MINMI

Samurai Champloo Music Record: Impression

This song is too beautiful. The vocals are in Japanese and sung by recording artist, MINMI, who also did the theme song to the anime series, Samurai Champloo. It is a slow and steady Hip Hop beat with beautiful, soothing vocals.

This Joint

Slightly Stoopid

Closer to the Sun

Reggae from a group of white guys is something special. This song is about marijuana...but it sounds great. Funky reggae bass and guitar, it's just a chill song you can listen to while...well...*ahem*

Tommib

Squarepusher

Lost in Translation Soundtrack

This calm song has everything in a song I like which is a good constant melody and a strong constantly driving bass (both are synthesized). I just wish it was much longer.

Cybele's Reverie

Stereolab

Emperor Tomato Ketchup

This is an underrated group. I love the retro 60's and 70's sound of this song and it's sung it French. It talks about how childhood was a golden time and now it's all gone. I sympathize with the message and I love the Minimoog synthesizer that they use.

Arrival to Earth

Steve Jablonsky

Transformers: The Score

This is a song from the popular 2007 sci-fi movie, Transformers. It is played during the part when the Autobots arrive to earth and when Optimus Prime first transforms. It ties in with the movie so well. It was brilliantly done.

Hark! The Harold's Angel Sings

Take 6

He Is Christmas

We all have heard or sung this Christmas hymn but Take 6 sings it so angelically and with some 'soul.' Nothing less from the African-American a cappella group.

Christmas Eve Sarajevo

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Christmas Eve and Other Stories

Is this a Christmas song or is the hard rock? It's both, it's orchestrated, and it's awesome!

In the Kitchen

Umphrey's McGee

Anchor Drops

This Progressive Rock can jam. When they get down, they get down! The whole album is great and features talent rarely heard of. The song is soft then hard then soft again but it all sounds good. It is a must have for any Rock fan.

Flames (Cello Song)

VAST

Visual Audio Sensory Theater

I cried when I heard this song. The sound of a cello will do that to me. The message of this song is beautiful. It's about commitment. The cello just weeps throughout the song and gets more dramatic towards the end. It is so melancholy but so fulfilling too.

Greensleeves

Vince Guaraldi

A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack

First off, this was a great little movie. What helped made it iconic was the Vince Guarldi Trio backing up some Jazzy versions to some Christmas classics. This song in particular just blows me away. That piano is just gorgeous and it commands attention. It is a great song.

Skating Song

Vince Guaraldi

A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack

The gentle falling piano, the skit skat of the drums, the buttery smoothness of that stand up bass; everything about this song is wonderful. It brings one of the most famous scenes in the movie to life.

Shadow of Doubt

Yoko Kanno

Escaflowne OST2

The first time I heard this song I was watching the promo to the film on . I thought it was similar to the Tokyo String Quartet sessions which I loved. It has beautiful sections of strings. You don't have to like Anime to like this song.

If I Can't Have You

Yvonne Elliman

Saturday Night Fever Original Soundtrack

Written by members of the Bee Gees, Yvonne Elliman's hit reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100! How couldn't it? It was intended for the film Saturday Night Fever but this disco jam was made for more!

Be Alright

Zapp and Roger

Zapp

I love this song because of its Bass line. But if it wasn't for Tupac sampling it in his song "Keep Ya Head Up" I wouldn't have ever heard of it. It has funky riffs and a laid back groove. Not bad for a 1980's song! But a lot of great songs came from the 80's so I'm not surprised.
