My Journey in Getting Breast Augmentation

Part 2 of Three, the Doctors Visit & Surgery Scheduling

Rebecca Smith
On the morning of March the 12, 2008 I got dressed and ready to head to Dallas Texas for my breast augmentation consultation appointment with a board certified doctor named Dr. Neil Seretsky. I planned to have my mother comes with me, as it is a long 2 hour drive from where I live and I have never been to Dallas before.

I was a bit nervous and excited all at once. I knew that this would be the day in which I would find out my final cost for the procedure and schedule the surgery date. I picked up my mother and headed south. Along the way we stopped by Starbucks and grabbed a coffee. The whole way I thought about what the doctor's office would be like, the doctor, what he might say and worried if I would need a breast lift along with the augmentation. My tummy had butterflies in it. I was so anxious.

The drive quickly went by and the next thing we knew, we were in the big city. Now, I had to find the doctors office. With a nervous stomach I followed the directions and took the exit I was supposed to take. Unfortunately I let the traffic intimidate me and I missed a turn off. After stopping by Domino's pizza for quick directions I was at the office in five minutes. It looked pretty small standing next to the other buildings. I lucked out with parking for there was only one spot left when I arrived.

When I went into the doctor's office the waiting room was nicely decorated. There was a frosted window in which the administrative personnel sat behind who took care of the intake of patients. When I arrived there were only two other people waiting with appointments. The lady behind the window gave me patient information forms in which to fill out and a credit application for a loan. I was happy to get in to see the doctor on time. I was a half hour early when I had arrived and was hoping I didn't have to wait too long.

A woman called my name for me to go into a patient room. The room was so pretty with fabric walls, a nicely padded patient chair and a vanity table. After I took a seat, the woman handed me a white robe and told me to undress from the waist up. She told me that the doctor would be in the room in five minutes.

I must admit it was a little funny to sit with only a robe covering my top half. The doctor came in and introduced himself. He was a tall, thin, older man. He sat down on his chair and confirmed that I was here for breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Neil Seretsky asked what I wanted to get out of having surgery, what my reasons were and why I thought I needed it. He carefully listened to what I had to say. He was friendly and answered all my questions. Then he had me lean back on the patient chair and he examined my breasts. He looked at the size and shape of the breast, how the nipple was sitting and if there was any sagging. He said I was a perfect candidate considering my breasts just lost tissue mass and weren't sagging. He also stated that the position of the nipple was in a good place, which would keep it from looking droopy. Other words I was in no need of a breast lift. Great news I thought. He suggested that I have the sub-muscular implant surgery done because I am so thin and the edge of the implant won't show that way. That means that they place the breast implant under your chest muscle. The incision will be made in the inframammary fold (a.k.a. breast crease incision). He stated that after surgery that I would have to "take it easy" for a few days and not drive for about five days. He suggested that I only do light walking for the first few weeks after surgery. About 6 to 8 weeks after surgery, he se said I could do some light to moderate exercise as long as I don't do too heavy of lifting. He also advised that some women experience loss of nipple sensation or even over sensitive nipples.

I told him what size I wanted to go to, from an A-cup to a D-cup. This would be about 450-470cc's. I also advised him of what vitamins I have been taking and asked if there was anything I needed to do before surgery. Dr. Neil Seretsky told me that I need to come in 2 weeks before my surgery date for pre op lab work. He also said I need to obtain pictures of what I want my breasts to look like and bring them in the day of the surgery.

After the appointment was over, he directed me down the hall to speak with a woman about financing. There I was told of the cost and signed the papers for the loan. They advised me the after my $1,000 down that I would owe 5,900.00. That would be $209.00 per month for a 36 month period. They also stated that there is no penalty fee for over paying. They also said that I need to keep my credit in good standing if they have to run it again for surgery dates scheduled after 30 days.

After speaking with the lady from financing, I was taken to the front desk where I scheduled my surgery and pre op dates. My surgery date is scheduled for the end of April and the pre op two weeks before that. I was excited to finally get a date of when it will all happen. I was also pleased to know that my surgery date gives me enough time to recover before going on my second honeymoon in June.

Check back in April, where I will give full detail on my surgery date, pre op and recovery process.
