I haven't been nervous about it since I started the process (getting my initial consultation to see if I was a candidate) but I realized today that I will have Lasik before I get my next paycheck. Somehow that made the process seem really soon and I started pondering life with no vision. Although the chances are small that there will be complications, isn't it our duty to prepare ourselves for the worst? So here is the real question. If I lose my sight in twelve short days, what do I want to see between now and then? What do I want to do between now and then that would be difficult if I were blind?
1. Watch a sunset. This is entirely corny and I apologize for the sentimentality but I love sunsets and my goal is to go for a walk, a bike ride or Frisbee golf before the 10th.
2. Look at one more full moon. As it happens there is one on September 4th. Assuming it is not raining I should be good.
3. Ride my bike. Have I mentioned how much I love to ride? I'm not a trail riding sort of girl, just a nice quiet ride around the neighborhoods near my home.
4. Frisbee golf. This is one of my very favorite past times. I have a huge collection of disks and love to play.
5. Watch my cat fly around the room flipping toys in the air after I've given him catnip. It makes me giggle every time. I think I will by him a new toy tonight.
6. Watch a really great movie. Whether an oldie or a new release as long as I really enjoy it.
7. Experience a really great date (there is a lot of potential for my date tonight, so we'll see how it goes).
8. Have a great hairday. You know one of those days where you wake up and your hair just seems to almost do itself and you walk around feeling fantastic. I have little control over this but I'm hoping it'll happen over the next twelve days.
9. Watch a packer game. Preseason totally counts so I should be able to do this next weekend (Speaking of which for those that haven't been watching I have high hopes for this season. They are doing great in preseason games!)
10. Read a really great book. I just started one so I'll have to read quickly in case it sucks and I need to read another one.
There are a couple other things that due to the time crunch I will not be able to see before the 10th....the leaves changing color, the first snowflakes and the opening of the apple orchards. Notice I haven't mentioned seeing my family. There are two reasons for that: 1st They are as homely as I am so who wants to have that image emblazoned in their brain, and 2nd I just saw them all last weekend at my family reunion (Including all the new babies who were oh-so-cute).
This has been a year of incredible changes for me, and I hope to add this one to the good side of the scale (Did I mention my year has included a divorce and turning 30...No? Oh yes, I haven't decided if these are on the good or the bad side of the scale yet...but that's a story for another time).
