My Kind of Christmas

Holidays

I remember it like it was yesterday...it was Christmas Eve morning and I was 5 years old, and couldn't wait for it to snow. The weather man said it was going to snow on Christmas. I was all up in the window watching for the first flakes to fall, when my grandfather walked by and said " It's not gonna snow as long as your watching for it " I crawled down out of the window, gave him a hug, and went to my room to play. An hour later (which seemed longer to me) my grandfather came into my room to let me know that the snow had started coming down. I was so excited, now I could build my very first snowman.

Christmas Day, after breakfast, me and my grandfather, wrapped up in our snow suits and gloves, and out into the snow we went. We had a snow ball fight, and of course I won, he always let me win. We made a snow fort, and built my very first snow man. My grandfather is gone now, and each time I look at the pictures my grandmother took of us that day, I remember the fun we had, and that snowman, all dressed up in my grandfathers hat, scarf, and gloves, and smoking on his pipe.

Christmas used to mean different things to me, but now that I'm older, and have kids of my own, I realize that Christmas is one of the most special holidays, because family bonds are made through traditions and memories that stick with you, even after your loved ones are gone.
