My Love Affair With..

So my wife and I took a sabbatical during the fall of 2009. I actually am not 100% sure what sabbatical means but it felt appropriate in that sentence. None the less, she had to do a pediatric clinical and she could not find one where we live so she ended up going to our old hometown. Luckily, her parents still live there so she had a free place to stay and free food. This may sound bad but I was actually looking forward to the time I would have during those three months. I am very selfish when it comes to my time. I always believed that I could have been single my whole life, simply because I try to cram so much into my days that I really don't have a lot of time for others. So, as you can see, I was kind of excited. I would have hours to devote to fantasy sports, the stock market (Thestreet.com in particular), and blogging.

The first few days started out incredibly well. I had class on Monday and Tuesday night so they always went really fast. I just had to find something to do on Wednesday and Thursday night. (Note: I went to see my wife every weekend and I would leave for work at 4 AM on Monday morning.) Since I am a graduate student, studying did take up some of my time but I was still left with more time on my hands than I needed. I found out that the school I attend had a place where you could rent DVD's for free. The first few times I went I stuck to older movies that I had always wanted to see but never got a chance. After a few weeks of that, I decided to get adventurous.

Sometime around 2006 or 2007 my wife (girlfriend at the time) was taking a class called Diversity in America. As part of class one day they watched 'The Office' episode about diversity (I believe it was called 'Diversity Day'). She told me how funny it was and how much I would enjoy it and despite her encouragement and also seeing how many of my other friends liked it I never started watching it. So one night I am up at the rental place and I saw 'The Office: Season One.' I probably watched all of season one that night (it was only five episodes) and I have never looked back. It has easily become my favorite show as I have never laughed out loud so much in my life. During my darkest times, it was 'The Office' that helped me make it through it.
