My Love Affair with Shoes

Thea
My mother used to buy me all kinds of shoes when I was little. We weren't rich, but since I was the only child for 7 years, we could afford to buy me shoes that she liked, shoes that I liked. It started there, and grew into a passion many little girls can relate to. Let's face it, most grown up women will say yes to this as well.

I like them high, flat, sleek, chunky, narrow, wide, pointy, blunt, you name it, I got it. I have some types in several colors. I have bought them brand new, screaming expensive! I have bought them used, making me scream out loud GOOD BUY!!! I have bought them alone, I have bought them with friends, even with my boyfriend. He is not anymore surprised at the way my eyes light up when I see a pair I like. He is now amused by it, if I might add. He has embraced the fact that there is one other love affair I will have, even way beyond our golden anniversary.

I knew long ago of my addiction to shoes. I also know there are a lot of girls out there with this same thing, whatever it is. I don't know exactly what their reasons are, when I can't even pinpoint my own. They are several things, actually. I can't explain the feeling of seeing a shoe and feeling your connection to it. I know from sight its fit, and the way it will look on my feet. But there is nothing that will compare with the way it will feel on them. So I take them, feel them, and put them on, and feel them again. It is heaven. And when you get a piece of heaven, will you ever want to let go? So I take the shoes, and walk on.

And I pay for them.

And then I am, as always, broke again.
