My whole life changed from out of the loop with friends and family to being connected by my new wireless carrier. People who didn't otherwise have time, I could keep in contact with the unlimited text messaging on my new cell phone as well as phone calls.
For the past 10 years I've been commuting by public mass transit without a cell phone before last year. I feel safer going places alone when I can stay connected at the touch of a few buttons on my cell phone.
Even riding in a car it has been a much appreciated resource. Being able to call for assistance when having car problems alone is worth the cost of having a phone. And calling for directions when going to a friends house I hadn't been to before is a lifesaver in not getting lost.
MetroPCS has been in my area of Dallas/Ft. Worth for around a year now. I was able to buy their cheapest phone to start out with, a cute little Nokia with no contract. When I paid around $100 to purchase the phone from MetroPCS, the first month and activation were free. I'm a little naive about some things like the technical aspects about what a good deal is on a cell phone but it sounded good at the time to me. I have unlimited local, long distance, and text messaging on my MetroPCS cell phone. I pay a flat monthly fee for every feature of my cell phone.
A friend of mine I had lost touch with has a MetroPCS phone now too and we can text message back and forth when the other has time without worrying about going over costs on texting.
I'm easily amused by the convenience of having a phone wherever I go. It's so much easier to call family at home to find out what we are out of as far as groceries when I'm at the store. It's great with being in big super stores or crowded places to find other people I'm with and touch base to tell them where I am.
Another convenience as far as feeling like a lifesaver is sending text messages back and forth in a doctor's waiting room at a clinic or hospital to pass time. If I feel uncomfortable with my surroundings I have friends and family just a few button pushes away texting them on my cell phone.
I may still be backward, old fashioned, and out of the loop with technology. I don't have an I Pod or a Blackberry or a DVD player or a digital camera, although I plan to catch up with some of those things (probably when they are obsolete if they aren't completely already), but I'm happy with my mandatory MetroPCS phone. I put off joining the rest of the cell phone owners in the world for far too long and now I can't imagine life without my MetroPCS cell phone.
