I didn't know why she wanted it, but she asked if she could have the big cardboard box that we had. I told her yes and she took it into her room. I didn't see her but a couple times for a long time. When I called her to lunch, she ate then went mysteriously back to her room.
When she came out a little bit later, she asked me to come with her to her room. And I was delighted that I did. Lying out on the floor was the largest homemade Happy Mother's Day card!
She had opened up the cardboard box at the seams to make a big canvas. On her cardboard canvas she drew and colored an outdoor scene picture with many elements. For the grass she had colored the bottom green and then glued REAL grass to it. There was flower stickers randomly placed. She drew flowers growing, a house, a tent with feet sticking out, a dog and cat with food bowls and a long driveway. In the sky was both a sun and moon but on opposite ends. There was also stars and a couple heart stickers.
In red crayon, she had written "Happy Mother's Day! I love you!" in the middle of the sky.
That was one of the best Mother's Day presents that I have ever received from her. I kept the card for years. Eventually the grass dried and turned yellow and the cardboard edges became very worn but I still see it as if it was just finished.
