My Mom Loves to Tell It like It Is

Getting Advice from Dear Old Mom

Tracy DeLuca
My mother cursed me. She did! She even admits to it. She cursed me to have a child exactly like myself. Whenever I was a stubborn teenager or an overly adventurous child, she cursed me. Now that her curse has born fruit, she laughs a sinister laugh and rubs her hands together when I call her for sympathy and advice.

OK, not really.

My mother is the most generous woman I know with advice, sympathy and comfort. I call her fairly often (cough cough every day cough cough) for words of wisdom on things such as attitude from teenagers to potty training snafus. She never fails to give some advice that will help me. And whenever she is near she is definitely open to changing diapers, folding clothes and helping to transport the teenager. Without my mom over the past 15 years, I have no idea what shape my children would be in! Not that I take every piece of advice she gives, but it sure is nice to have options and ideas from someone who has already been through the same type of situations. To be honest, I am much more likely to ask my mother for advice on most subjects than I am to ask my friends. Or my doctor. My mom has a good head on her shoulders and a whole lot more life experience than I have.

So, next time you are stuck with a problem you don't know how to handle, pick up the phone. But make sure you call your own mom! Mine is probably on the phone with me...

Like you, I feel that my mother is a very valuable source of wisdom. I am still to this day asking her opinion.
