No, I'm not about biscuits here.
Muffin was my dog during my growing up years.
I remember her arrival into the family when I was in my upper teen years. It was fun. Perhaps my most favorite memory of Muffin was when she would eat.
She would eat everything, and that is no exaggeration. Well, as long as everything included whatever humans would eat. It was clear that in her eyes she was a human on four legs. During such times as these you would find her on two hind legs with her front paws flailing in the wind for whatever it was that she was seeking. Normally, that meant food. No not dog food, but people food.
I'd quite often oblige her request with everything from lettuce, olives, carrots, pizza, popcorn, and the list went on. Simply put, if it was good enough for people it was good enough for her.
She wouldn't touch onions though. Nope. Before you think that this was one step to far for my four legged human dog friend let me continue.
She wouldn't eat onions that had not been prepared correctly. That's right. She was the family's live-in chef that had certain specific standards to maintain. When it came to onions, they were only acceptable if salad dressing was part of the equation.
STEP 1: Slice an onion in thin pieces.
STEP 2: Apply salad dressing to one side.
STEP 3: Consume.
One day my younger brother and a friend got a bright idea, or was it torture?
First they applied peanut butter to the side of a jalapeno so it would stick to the roof of Muffin's mouth. Then they fed it to her, waiting for a huge laugh shared by all, all but Muffin and me that would be.
Amazingly enough, Muffin took the altered jalapeno and began the devouring process. Within moments she was back in front of them waving her front paws through the air while planted upon rear legs begging for more. Not even a jalapeno trap would stop her enjoyment of people food.
Those were the days, and that was my Muffin. Can't really imagine what my life would have been like had I not had time well spent with her. I know my mind smiles every time I think back to the people food eating days of my precious Muffin and my most favorite memory of her days.
