My Most Memorable Gym Blunder

For years I have been a die-hard gym goer and will struggle through a work out even when I don't feel like going. Countless hours have been spent in hopes to gain more muscle, strength and to become faster. Throughout the years I have tried my best to stay free of injuries but matter how careful I've ever been I have had some gym mishaps that were character building.

Cosmo's Fitness

Ten years ago while living in Atlanta, Ga I trained in a health facility called Cosmo's Fitness. It was an older gym with an older clientele in the morning and a large crowd during the evenings with young'uns like myself trying to get buff by throwing around the weights the best we knew how.

At the time I believed in doing everything heavy with high reps. It's funny looking back at it, now. I was too afraid to bulk, like many women, because of the weight I was doing so I would rep out three sets of 15 at 320lbs on the squat press. There were many days when my legs felt like jelly and I wondered how I was going to be able to make it to the car with them. Once, and only once, I didn't.

Leg day

After one of my serious leg workouts I walked out of Cosmo's Fitness with my partner-in-crime and we were making the usual complaints about how badly our legs were going to hurt the next day. As I was saying this I stepped down from the curb and suddenly everything went into slow motion. It was like having an out of body experience as I was watching myself fall from the curb. I was reaching for anything in front of me to grab on to but there was nothing to hold but air.

My legs had given out from beneath me directly in front of the bay windows of the gym. As if that wasn't bad enough I fell on to the front quarter panel of someone's Suburban and slid down the side of it at a diagonal angle. I hit the ground like a serious sack of potatoes and began to laugh uncontrollably. My training partner began to laugh uncontrollably and did not help me up.

I looked ridiculous rolling around on the ground screaming and laughing in front of the gym. I was not hurt but made a serious spectacle of myself and it was only one of many in my ten years of training.
