My Most Precious Mother's Day Memory

Doc has always been a strange critter of sorts. I hold dear all those old fashioned things that most people of my generation don't even give a second thought to. One of my most precious things in life is that of time spent with my family. And it doesn't have to be the expensive dinner out to make me happy. Just a cheap trip to the mountains is more then enough for me. Nothing more illustrates this then one of my most memorable Mother's Day outings.

We started the morning off with a stop at Polly's Pancake Parlor on Sugar Hill New Hampshire. Since the wait is always atrocious, we bought a Frisbee from the gift shop and began to frolic in the field beside the restaurant as we waited for our number to be called. The warm sun, the glistening green meadows, the chirp of newly arrived birds and the glimmer of snow on a distant mountain peak sent a feeling of peace and tranquility down my spine as I watched the Frisbee whiz past me. Mom and Dad sat hand in hand on a bench, I sat on a rock across from them, my then 1 ½ year old son played with a girl he met and my husband and daughter threw the Frisbee down the middle of all of it. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those I loved had to be the ultimate Mother's day gift but it was about to get better.

After our meal we stopped at the cheese shop down the road for some $.25 ice cream cones, maple soda and cheese balls. Nothing expensive but being with my family was priceless non-the-less. After this it was on to a hiking trail for a quick hike and some time to reminisce beside a sparkling stream, full with the icy cold snow run off from the mountain peaks above us. Taking one last look back at the snow capped peaks behind me, I put the old Buick wagon in gear and headed for home. Inside me my heart was full, yet sad. I didn't want this day to ever end. Beside me sat my mom, behind me my husband and son and behind them my dad and daughter. Inside that battered old car, warm and safe, was my entire world, my entire reason for living, my amazingly wonderful family. To me Mother's Day 2008 will always be the Mother's Day I got exactly what I wanted, my family together in one place, safe and happy. Something that is far more valuable to me then all the jewelry, flowers and chocolates in the world.

To all my readers I wish the most amazing and most memorable Mother's Day you have ever had.
