My Most Successful Triond Articles

I've been writing for Triond for almost two years now, and in that time I've noticed that some of my articles have much higher page views than others in my portfolio. As I've studied my content list and analyzed my page views, I've also noticed that certain types of articles have pulled in more earnings for me than others. Recently, I decided to analyze my Triond articles to see which ones had the highest page views, and which articles earned the most revenue. Here's how I'm using this information to make more money as a Triond writer.

My Highest Performing Triond Articles

Without a doubt, my most successful Triond article to date is the one I wrote titled "John McCain and Barack Obama Coloring Pages, Paper Dolls and E-Cards." As of this writing, this story is my best performing article with 5,819 total page views to date and $16.01 in total earnings. This article is a great example of an "evergreen" piece, an article that will draw in page views year round and isn't tied to a specific event or holiday. I knew when I wrote this article that no matter who actually won the election this article would continue to draw page views because it mentioned both presidential candidates. The subject matter of this article continues to have appeal and this piece earns good page views day after day, even though the election is over.

I published this article in fall 2008, right before the presidential election, and it was a runaway hit on Triond and also on Associated Content. I also bookmarked this article on Xomba and it received tons of page views. This was really a great article for me in lots of ways, because even though John McCain didn't win the election, those who are interested in McCain memorabilia will also continue to read this piece.

My other articles about free coloring pages have also been some of my most successful articles on Triond. In my time writing for web sites, I've discovered that articles about free coloring pages for kids and adults bring in lots of page views, and they are beloved by teachers, parents and creative people. I'm an adult who loves to color, so I really enjoy researching and writing these types of articles.

My article titled "Free Halloween Coloring Pages" did well on Triond and earned $6.26 with 2,720 total page views to date, and "Free Printable Spring Coloring Pages for Kids" received 2,812 total views earning me a total of $5.85. A more recent article for Triond titled "Difficult Coloring Pages for Older Children" has already received 4,861 page views, with $9.34 in earnings.

I'm discovering that stories about free coloring pages and printables can be quite lucrative. One article I published on Associated Content about "Free Adult Coloring Pages" has earned me about 35,000 page views and over $50 since February 2009. When I bookmark some of these articles on Xomba, I'm also earning even more through a share of AdSense earnings.

My articles on Writinghood have been winners for me, probably because Triond members and freelancers are always interested in online writing, so these continually draw page views. Articles with tips about how to make money as a writer are also evergreen articles that continue to draw in readers day after day. My stories on Writinghood typically pull in a few thousand page views and earn me anywhere from $2 to $3 per article; for example my article called "Secrets to Success as a Triond Writer" has had 2,106 views and earned $3.01 in total revenues.

This doesn't sound like much, but if I just devoted myself to writing pieces for Writinghood and each story yielded $2 or $3 per article, it could really add up over time. Other articles that did pretty well for me are the ones I wrote about health and wellness. My story "Extreme Dieting: Slim Shots Appetite Controller" did surprisingly well, with 1,364 page views to date and $3.44 in total earnings so far. This shows that readers are out there just waiting to read about topics related to wellness, and I'm definitely going to write more stories about health this year. My articles about travel in the Hudson Valley and my product reviews earned me a few dollars also, so in the future, I'll be focusing more on these topics, too.

My Poorest Performing Triond Articles

To my dismay, some of my more personal stories that fell into the category of "creative non-fiction" have had really low page views. Some of my Triond articles have earned literally pennies: my article called "My Wishing Year" had a whopping 104 page views and earned me 16 cents! My poorest performing Triond article was a review of the TV show "Lipstick Jungle" and the review made 3 cents in earnings.

In my opinion, this really underscores the need to write on topics with universal appeal, something that will reach out and grab a large number of readers. I liked "Lipstick Jungle" a lot but viewers didn't; my article was published just as the show was being cancelled. Some of my soap opera articles on Triond have also had a short shelf life, drawing some viewers when a storyline is hot, but sinking like a stone after a period of time.

Studying my page views and Triond earnings, I can see how some articles that are very personal and dear to my heart have been poor performers, but I'm okay with that (they were published purely for the love of writing). When I'm writing to generate earnings though, I think I'm going to stick to topics I've had some success with in the past (like writing) that I know will be more popular with readers.

My Conclusions

Reviewing my total page views and earnings, I've noticed that my articles that give readers useful information achieved the highest page views for me. My articles on writing and health did well for me, so with this in mind, I'll continue to write pieces that provide useful information for my readers. It's clear my readers want to find out more about writing, they are interested in wellness and they enjoy collecting and free online resources like coloring pages and printables. The stories I've done for Triond that are more from my personal experience have had dismal earnings, so I'll keep this in mind and know that I publish these types of articles more for the self expression and creative fulfillment.

"Evergreen" articles also earn more for me on Triond, stories that have year-round appeal and aren't tied to a time sensitive topic or event. When writing television and movie reviews, I'm going to focus more on "classic" films and stars that people want to read about indefinitely; hopefully this will ensure that my articles have more of a readership and earn me more dollars.

I think it's useful to review your Triond page views and total earnings once in a while to decide what topics you'll write about in the future. Which articles did well and which ones were disappointing?
