My Mother, My Friend

K.C. Pallone
As a teenager I thought
I could do it all alone.
Would make it through this world
Maybe didn't even need to go home.

Somebody changed my life
She loved me and cared so much.
Made me feel unique and special
My heart she did touch.

She taught me about life
She taught me about death.
She taught me about faith
Explained what I did not get.

She calmed me when I was upset
She chased away all of my fears.
When I cried on her shoulder
She would kiss away all my tears.

She taught me how to love
Myself, as well as others.
After all, she would tell me
"We're all sisters and brothers."

Her love for me remains unconditional
Advice still given on demand.
She cares for me more than life itself
And somehow, always understands.

You may wonder
Who is this woman?
A childhood friend
Or someone who just stepped in?

She's someone I admire
More than anyone in this world.
Now she watches and helps me
With my baby girls.

She made me who I am
And I will be grateful til the end.
This loving, remarkable woman
Is my mother, and my friend.
