My Mother is My Personal Guardian Angel

Jackie Barlow
Immediately upon the passing of my 90-year-old mother four years ago, after both her body and mind had deteriorated from the cheerful, intelligent, caring, sweet woman that she had always been, an immediate sense of tremendous relief came over me rather than a deep grief, which feeling certainly surprised me.

That was due not only because I felt that she was now at peace and healthy and young, but also because I had the overwhelming feeling that she became my personal guardian angel, to watch out over me for the rest of my life.

I had never realized for years how much I enjoyed seeing pictures and reading stories of angels until I then thought about it and knew that I had great respect for guardian angels especially.

The concept of a "heavenly being" hovering over us and watching out for our safety and wellbeing (both physically and emotionally) is such a joy, in my opinion.

Over the years I have called on my mother quite regularly whether in times of stress or happiness - how sad that she had to miss my daughter's late life wedding and happy events in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's lives - but was she indeed there in spirit enjoying every special occasion? I have worn her jade locket and wedding and engagement rings to help "bring" her to the celebrations.

It is a calming influence when there are major illnesses or surgeries in the family to feel that mother and her sister angels are right there to help make things better (and to be sure that the doctors or surgeons "did everything right"!!)

I have even been in extreme unexpected rain on interstate highways where you couldn't see to drive and have asked her to "part the waters" in time to see the exit signs so that we could safely get off at the right places - and I have watched that happen!!!

I wish for each of you the feeling of having your own guardian angel to help you through life. That takes some of the burden off your shoulders when you feel depressed and need something to lift your spirits up. It also gives you an extra "someone" to share your special accomplishments and joys with.

Jackie, This is a lovely article. Thank You for sharing it with us here. I too believe in guardian angels. Sometimes the help us while we are here on this earth and sometimes they help retrieve us to take us home. Peace be with you.
