My Nightmare Come True

The picture of that night
is still very clear.
I can never forget
all the torment and fear.

I opened the door
just to hear the man say,
"Please take a seat,
I must tell you this way."

"He went to a party
and had too much to drink,
but stood up anyway
and put his glass in the sink."

"He got in his car
and pulled out of the lot,
even though people with him
screamed and then fought."

"They fought for his life,
and tried to stop him from going,
out into the night
without even knowing."

"He didn't know
that the end was so near,
the end of his life,
was becoming so clear."

"Alcohol in his system
made everything hazy,
and the oncoming headlights
seemed to be blazing."

"The two cars collided,
and sparks flew around,
and once it was over,
we heard not a sound."

"Please do not cry,
I think it went fast.
Put it out of your mind,
and into the past."
