My Only Experience at McDonald's for 2007

Jean-Paul Yen
I probably go to McDonald's once in a blue moon (which occurs once every forty-one months for those keeping score). I am trying to lower my average since I grew up on Chicken McNugget happy meals. I was a kid and I liked toys and chicken nuggets with hot mustard. So to avoid having a heart attack in my late twenties I gave up on a fast food diet. Here is a brief recap of my first visit and most likely last visit to a McDonald's restaurant in 2007.

The Shrek Happy Meal is the reason I had lunch at McDonald's. It was very important to me that I own a Shrek action figure. So far I have played with Shrek for about 10 seconds. He is however on my shelf with a Mark Prior bobblehead. Both are still in their original unopened packaging in case I need money and have to sell them on the internet whether it be through Amazon, eBay, Overstock or Craigslist.

The wait in line was about two minutes during lunch hour. When I ordered my food it was pretty easy to read the menus and make a quick decision on what to eat. I settled on a 6 piece McNugget Happy Meal. Before ordering the food, I inquired which toy would I be receiving. The cashier looked in the container to verify that the toy was a Shrek action figure. I was hoping for the Gingerbread man but Shrek will do. Yes! My total came to $4.20 plus state sales tax 6% of $0.25. I can break down the cost this way, $4.45 for a Shrek toy, and a free meal. While waiting I filled up on half lemonade half iced tea. The wait for my order was less than 90 seconds. I took the tray to a clean empty table. Actually the restaurant was pretty clean. The self serve drink area was clean too. I went to open my nuggets and counted them because I like numbers. Oh no! I only counted five.

I went to the counter and said that I ordered 6 nuggets but she only gave me 5. What? That's not possible. McDonald's is an industry leader at supply/chain and restaurant efficiency. No problem. She threw the 5 piece nuggets away. This is standard procedure at McDonald's for health purposes. Then I received a new box. I opened and counted to make sure there were six this time. There were six this time. Customer service at this restaurant is exceptional. Food is purposely made to be unimpressive as to meet customers' expectations. The saying goes "You get what you pay for." This McDonald's did all the right things with regards to operations and customer service. Well done.

Haha - Shrek toy and swamp-ready food. What a deal.
