My Opinions on the Senate Healthcare Bill Tax on Tanning Beds.

The democrats do it again. They find a way to claim diversity yet tax one group to assist other groups. I actually did not think of this until I first read this assignment and decided to accept it. If you have read any or my work you probably will know that I am not a big fan of Barack Hussein Obama and like the congressional leaders even less. Tax and spend seems to be a cornerstone of the modern Democratic Party. I am a registered Democrat, but defiantly a blue dog that leans Republican. I am ashamed at what has become of my party.

Basically to pay for Obamacare their were various ideas kicked around about who to pick on and tax to give to the people who don't have issuance like anchor babies who have no place in this country anyway. There was some discussion about a tax on plastic surgery, but this was shot down. I think part of that was because of all of the surgery that is done after breast cancer. Democrats do not want to alienate part of their base after all. So they came up with the idea of putting a 10% excise tax on indoor tanning. What does this really do though and who does it affect?

Let's take a look at tanning itself. I am very aware that tanning can be hazardous to your health with skin cancer and things like that. There are other things that hurt more people though like tobacco and alcohol products. Heck you can argue that sex hurts some people. So who does this tax effect. One study conducted from March 2007 until December 2009 found these results. White people make up 77% of the people who tan and 12% are races other than white, black, Hispanic. Blacks only make up 3% of the people who tan. Also 37% of the people who tan are under 18 years old. So basically this tax disproportionately affects people who can not vote this liberal riff raff out of office. It also effects white people more than any other racial group and will hardly affect blacks at all. Now if someone put a tax on malt liquor, menthol cigarettes or KFC (some people's opinion not mine I love chicken) then people would argue that you are trying to tax blacks. No one is saying anything here because the bill will affect white people.

People from various races do own tanning salons. There is some thought that since the economy is bad that many tanning salon owners will not pass on the 10% excise tax onto their consumers. I realize many in Washington do not understand the basics of economics, but typically businesses will just pass on the cost of something to the customer. If they do not pass on the cost they will cut back on employees, their benefits, or their hours. This in turn will hurt the little guy. If the salon owners just decide to eat the tax and it cuts into their profit then the small business owner is being penalized. This is what that socialist disgrace Barack Hussein Obama said he did not want to do. Those of us enlightened knew better. This also will be a tax increase on many middle and low income people in addition to the wealthy that the liberals like to rob to give money to others. I believe someone said "if you make less than $200,000. You will not see a tax increase under my plan". I call B.S. on that one.
