My Personal Graduation Memory

Amy Stepp
Graduating high school is suppose to be the highlight of your high school years. The time where you say good-bye to the old you and hello to the new "adult" version of you. During this time the memories you create will last you a lifetime.

My high schools graduating was in May of 1998, however I did not graduated with my class at this time because I failed my Senior algebra class and had to take summer school instead. I remember the night of my classmates graduation I sat at dinner with my parents just miserable as can be cause I was missing out of the time of my life with my other friends. I never imagined I would not graduate on time and with my class, but the teacher I had that year in math was just down right hateful towards a few selected seniors who spoke their minds. I believe that year a total of 10 that were in his class did not graduate on time and we all ended up in summer school.

So Summer came and I gave up a month and a half of sleeping in to take math in Summer school. As I sat by my fellow senior classmates that failed also, I vowed to myself that once I pass this class I will celebrate it as I would my graduation day.

On July 8, 1998 I walked up to the school to receive my diploma. I walked in my cap and gown and enjoyed every moment of the time because I knew that this would be the last time I would ever have a chance at being a kid. I knew the moment my principal placed my diploma in my hand that I had to grow up and handle responsibilities. After I got my diploma, I drove home and when I went into my house, my mother did comment on how dumb it was for me to wear my cap and gown, however at least she got the money out of it instead of it going to waste!
