My Personal Review of the 2008 San Diego County Fair

I visited the county fair in Del Mar, California on June 24th, 2008 and I had a really good time! It was kids day and even though I don't have children, it wasn't any less fun for me. I arrived there just as they opened and there were plenty of eager children itching to get in.

This fair is said to be one of the largest in the nation and certainly one of the largest in California. I know that it's a very large, lively fair and millions of people from around the world come here to see it. But, when I went today, it didn't seem crowded, but that might have been because I came very early in the day. At night, they have some top performers at their nightly concerts. I am tempted to go back, at night, just to see one of the famous bands they have lined up.

The first thing that got me excited was that it was "2 Dollar Tuesday" where you can sample all the different types of food at the fair for 2 dollars each. Usually, the price of food is way higher and you get too much for only one person. I usually end up getting sick after eating only two or three items most times I go. With "2 Dollar Tuesday," I was able to eat smaller portions and be able to try things I've never been able to try because their portions were too large. Most of the booths actually gave me a decent sized portions save for two booths. I also noticed that there were lots of places advertising kids meals, too. I don't know if it was just for kids day or something they do all the time. I may try that next year because I just can't eat a lot all at once.

I went shopping early in the exhibit halls and found that it was the best time as no one was there. Of course, no one was demonstrating anything at the time, either, but I wasn't planning on buying the things that were being demonstrated. I have been going to this fair for years and I pretty much know what I am going to buy and from whom before I get there. And, that's what I did today; I bought the things I wanted and went on to do the fun things.

I then went and saw the exhibits and the art show was very good even if they did reject my artwork this year. Yes, there were a few works I saw that I didn't think deserved to be there, but most of the works were very pleasant and inspiring. The same can also be said about the photo and digital arts show. I even checked out the web design exhibit and those websites looked pretty good!

There was also a youth horseback riding event that was fun to watch as well as many other animal-related events, like turkey racing, something I haven't seen there before. I visited Quey, the beautiful Mustang over at the World of Horses in the infield portion of the fair, which is mostly designed for the kids.

So, that's my report for this year's fair. If anyone is interested in going, it runs until July 6th. The website, in case you want to check it out, is:

Thanks for looking! It was really fun, but it's probably because I didn't get tired like I usually do.

Sounds and looks like lots of fun. I may have pencil this date in if we make it Cali.
