My Pick for 3 Books that Should Be Turned into Movies

Erin Rivera
While there have always been huge blockbuster movie hits that have been based off of best selling books there are many other books that have been written that too, deserve their own movies. Here is a look at my top three picks for books that should be movies.

My first choice for a book that should be turned into a movie is the book Night Pleasures by best selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon. Night Pleasures takes readers on a plunge into the exciting world of the Dark Hunters. Sherrilyn Kenyon does a magnificent job of combing Greek mythology and giving it a huge twist to come up with an exciting world of characters you cannot help fall in love with. The Dark Hunters are similar to vampires in a sense that most cannot go out during the day but they are real heroes saving the world from a darker force. These books have enough romance, action and science fiction to keep just about any audience entertained and I think with the right actors and effects this movie could be a huge hit and a great introduction to future movies based off other Dark Hunter books. My choice for casting for Amanda Deveraux, the quiet accountant in the book would have to be given to Alicia Witt who was best known for being in the movie 2 Weeks Notice. As for the Dark Hunter Kyrian it would be interesting to see Hayden Christensen play the role.

My second choice for books that should be movies is Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. In this book Dean Koontz introduces us to a humble man named Odd Thomas. Odd is "odd" in the sense that he can see another world that most of us cannot including seeing the dead. He is a lovable character that is just trying to use his special ability for the good of the world. He has a soul mate named Stormy Llewellyn as well as many other surprising friends who try to help him on his way. The movie would greatly appeal to those who love a movie full of suspense and mystery. I would love to see Zachary Levi Pugh from the hit NBC show Chuck as Odd and That 70's Show's Mila Kunis would make a wonderful Stormy.

Lastly I think the book Maus: A Survivors Tale My Father Bleeds History would be a huge hit if it were made into a movie. Art Spiegelman takes a different approach with this book that is both effective and haunting. Here we read about Art's father Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish Holocaust survivor. You get lost in how he survives all odds and cry with him over all the tragedies that befall him all while just trying to stay alive. The book also touches on Art's own struggling with trying to understand his father and deal with the tragic loss of his mother also a Holocaust survivor. Jake Gyllenhaal would be an excellent choice to play a young Vladek while Natalie Portman would be perfect to play Vladek's wife Anja. As for Art Spiegelman it would interesting to see Jason Schwartzman try to take on the roll.

I would like to see "Odd Thomas" should it be made into a film. Maus might not translate well 'epic' tales hard to evoke same feelings in a 2 hr. time frame. But sounds like an excellent read.
