My Picks for Three Best Bars in Tucson, Arizona

If You Live in Tucson or Are Just Visiting, Try to Make Time to Stop at These Three Great Bars

John Savage
If you find yourself in Tucson, Arizona, whether on vacation or you just wake up and realize you live here, take some time to check out these great bars. Even if you don't drink alcohol, these are very enjoyable places to hang out. All these bars are clean, well staffed and have something to offer anyone.

Sky Bar:

The Sky Bar, located at 536 N. Fourth Ave, is my first choice for a quick drink break. Besides being a great bar for alcohol, it is also a coffee bar, with unbelievably low prices, I might add. It is a large open space and a very relaxed environment styled after astronomy, which would explain the astronomical scenes on the screens, ad it fits in with the fact that they are a solar powered business. They have pool tables so you won't get bored, and don't worry if you are a smoker because they have a large patio on which to partake of your favorite tobacco product. The staff is friendly and ready to serve, so tip them well. You can have food ordered from Brooklyn Pizza next door and they will deliver it over to you, this is also one of the best, real New York style pizza places in Tucson.

Pockets:

If you really like to play pool, or billiards, Pockets Pool and Pub, located at 162 S. Wilmot, is the premier place to go in Tucson. Pockets offers four coin operated bar size pool tables, 11 regulation billiards tables, with light blue felt that is easy on the eyes, and 2 heated spider tables. They are open from 11am to 2am daily. The billiards tables run by the hour and the pool tables are $1.00 a game. The atmosphere is nice, not too dark or rowdy, and they have an internet juke box, if they are even called that anymore. They also have tournaments for straight pool and nine-ball. The staff is friendly and professional, and the drink prices are very reasonable, I paid $3.25 for a shot of Cuervo. Pockets, has an awesome pro shop where you can buy just about anything pool or billiards related, from chalk to professional cues. I would definitely recommend that if you go only one place to play pool in Tucson that you go to Pockets.

Famous Sam's:

Famous Sam's is probably the best known sports bar in Tucson. Although there are locations elsewhere, it is very well known here in Tucson. Open from 9am to 1am every day, Famous Sam's is a great place to go with the children, at least until 8pm. They have many screens in which to watch the game or whatever sporting event they are featuring at the time. They also have pool tables and other games for you, your friends, or your kids to play. The food is quite good and reasonably priced, as well as the drinks. The usual customers are usually well behaved, although they can get a bit rowdy and loud when the game is on. Famous Sam's has several locations in Tucson, and throughout Arizona, so I would check out the phone book or the website, to find the location nearest you.
