My Pillow

Jolynne M Hudnell
More than a cradle for my weary head
My pillow holds my secrets
Released only in the black of night

The tears slide silently down my cheek
The soundless trickle flows
Imperceptible to any human senses

Accumulation of emotions unexpressed
What my eyes cannot contain
Understanding the unspoken pain

Absorbing all I refuse to articulate
My pillow is my confident
My secrets safe from revelation

Jolynne, so sad and yet cathartic! Love your poetry, straight from the heart and soul!

Been down this road. Here's one I like to speak when troubled in the early morning hours:
6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
    Psalm 4:6-8.
Still, I sometimes wonder what my wife would think if I suddenly sit up and screamed out the words in my mind. But no, we bear in silence, and indeed the pillow knows our tears.

Yes, sad but beautiful. There is such therapy in this for the soul...and to those who can understand it and take it for themselves, it is like a gift to unwrap and share with the heart. Mending is from bending, and tears bleed emotions.
