My Plan for Surviving a Zombie Attack

Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves - What is Your Plan?

Lucy M

There is so much hype these days about vampires, werewolves, ghosts and zombies. It really makes you wonder how you would be able to survive a world filled with these creatures. I have watched enough of these movies and television shows to know that everyone should have a plan or at least an idea of what they will need to do.

I know someone who lives in a rural area of the state that has a lot of land and lots of guns and ammunition. We talk about zombie attacks often and he always says that his friends and family can come over but they will need to bring something useful for him. It could be food, water, or medical supplies. I think this is a fair offer, especially since I do not have any weapons.

Then I was thinking what if I could not get out of my area, what would I do then? My community is large and the houses are close together. We have hardly any yards and no privacy. If neighbors turned into these creatures then we would not be able to fight them off.

I am not near the water but thought that getting on a boat would be a great option. Taking it to a small island is another option but what if people had already gotten there and the infection had already spread?

If I had the money I would buy property in the nearby mountains. Preferably something that had a mountain on it so I could build into a cave. I would build some rooms and store food, water, and supplies for me and my friends and family. I would conceal the door and keep the location a secret. I would make it into an apartment with beds, a kitchen, and a bathroom. I would install 2 generators, one as a backup.

Inside my cave I would install lots of electronics and I would install solar panels somewhere outside so that we would electricity in case the world was completely taken over by zombies and no one could operate the utility companies. I would also install a few satellites so that they could each be pointing in a different direction. This could help with communication with other people in hiding.

Then I start thinking that this would work in case of a nuclear war too. I would have to line the walls with lead if I could and make the floor, walls, and ceiling as thick as possible. I would also need Geiger counters so that I could tell what the radiation levels were outside without venturing out of my safe spot. I would need enough water and food stored away since I would think we could not go outside for about a year to avoid the nuclear fallout. I am not sure how that would work and how I could store that much stuff. How would I have electric if the skies were all dark with ash? The solar panels would not work; I would not have enough gas to run generators for long. It is something I think about often.

Thinking about my plans put me more at ease. I feel as if there could be the possibility of living through a zombie attack or nuclear disaster. The reality is, however, that the likelihood of survival is slim to none.
