My Poem to You on Valentine's Day, Love

For Enduring

Jeanne Sparks-Carreker
In his presence, I am better.
I shine, reflecting the light he ever radiates.
I am more myself, because I have become,
Completely and thoroughly and only,
The person I am with him.

I've met only one colossus of a man in my life,
Truly believing all others fall by the wayside.
He showed me how to love, and in doing so,
He showed me how to live.

And when I am an elderly woman,
Looking back on a full, meaningful life,
I will clasp his old, wrinkled hand in mine
And whisper, "Thank you for this,"
And he will know what I mean.
