My Problem with Webkinz

If know what Webkinz are skip to the next section to get to the problem. Webkinz are little bean bag animals that include a code to "adopt" a virtual character that matches the bean bag online. There is a world of games and activities online to earn "Kinz cash" . If you have seen the games most are copies of 1980's arcade games with some creative variations. This online cash can be used to buy the character rooms for their house, furniture, mail to send to other Webkinz, food, and other gifts. Sounds great, but once you get into the Webkinz world you are stuck buying at least 1 Webkinz character every 12 months.

This is my overall Webkinz problem. Our family has purchased over 20 webkinz for our 4 kids and for gifts for others. Recently my son's account was disabled because it "expired". He has 4 webkinz logged under his account that were adopted. It was my understanding that he would have 1 year of online activity available for each wekinz we purchased based on the FAQ section of this website and the store where we purchased some webkinz. I called your phone number when his account was "expired" and found out that this is not the case. It is one year from the last date of an adopted webkinz figure. So if 100 webkinz were purchased and entered in one week we would only get 1 year total. My question is "what is the incentive to purchase more than 1 overpriced figure?" The only value to a webkinz is that kids want to play the games online so why would I ever buy more than 1 per year at this time? Basic ethics are in question here. Under the parents website FAQ section on the Ganz, we are encouraged to adopt all the webkinz under a single account. Oh course there is no mention that doing so, all these webkinz will expire at the same time. There is a direct FAQ about "When does my account expire, How do I renew my account?". There again is no mention of the 1 year expiration on the date of the last webkinz code entered. This is a very direct question and should demand a very direct answer.

The idea of an online virtual world is not a Ganz original. Disney and other companies have been doing it for years. Ganz, however, took the idea and monitized it better by selling bean bag toys in order to access the online world.

If you want a welcome back code I will give you one.
I will trade you for some webkinz items. :)

It actually says in another section that the year will not stack & that it will go from the registered date & tack on a year from there, under Frequently Asked Questions under the Parents Area

Just do not waste your money buying more than 1 Webkinz doll per year. There is no benefit.

to 'renew' your account you just buy another webkinz and enter its secret code under the old account. the old account will reopen exactly as it was before and will be good for one more year.

i don't think it's a bad system to pay $13 a year for kids to play safe games online. they learn responsibility because if you don't care for your webkinz pet, it will get lonely, hungry, etc. also, many of webkinz world's games are aducational, such as quizzys corner, where kids can answer questions about different topics (social studies, science, and so on) for 'kinzcash'. personally, i would rather have my kids enjoy both a stuffed animal and the online game site (where i know they're safe and protected from the usual dangers of the internet) than have them getting into trouble
