My Redeemer Lives

When Depression Sets in There is a Way Out

Charlene Collins
This poem is about the effects of depression. It hurts to be depressed, and everyone hurts with you. Everyone may get depressed once in a while, and even when we are children of God, we still have to fight the enemy of depression. I fight depression by knowing that my Redeemer lives.

There are times when I am lost and lonely,

it hurts so bad to be me sometimes.

Life gets to be too much at times,

but I have to say right now,

I have joy because my Redeemer lives.

Those times when I am lost and lonely,

when the sparkle leaves my eyes,

I stop dwelling on me and lift my eyes

to my redeemer that shed his blood for me.

Yes, there are times I feel lost and lonely,

I feel so sad, my life a void.

Joy is just a distant memory,

until I remember my Redeemer lives.

My Savior says it isn't true;

I am not lost and I am not lonely,

I am found, and I am loved.

Jesus gave me his joy in abundance.

so when I feel lost and lonely,

I remember my Redeemer lives.

I grew up in the Salvation Army and one hymn we sang was titled "He lives". Your poem reads like a church hymn...a song of faith. I loved it!!
