My Review on the Movie Marie Antoinette

A Waste of Time and Money

Desalee Owens
This movie did spark my interests when I saw the previews and read the synopsis, but to see it was another story. Marie Antoinette 14 years old is promised out to marry the 15 year old heir to the throne of France to help her family in Austria keep an alliance. When the young heir cannot find himself able to consummate the marriage Marie Antoinette tries her best to seduce him however nothing works at first. So basically through over half of this movie you're wondering when he is going to "give it to her". The other half is about the family she has, her fling with a soldier and her party and gambling habits. Her first child born a girl and her second a boy a new heir to the throne; however the second child according to the way the movie portrayed it might have been the soldiers. Then they show a picture which has her with her two children and a baby and then remove it and replace without the baby, then proceed to show a small coffin being removed. The movie takes many turns but basically most of the movie was about her not getting consummated and the other half about her crazy ways, and how the people of France blamed her for all their troubles.

Honestly in my opinion this movie dragged on and on with a runtime of 123 min. I thought the movie would keep me interested but I lost interest after the first half hour of non consummation. A friend who I went with to see this movie also found a great disappointment of it. We laughed it off how my boyfriend as quite as he is probably would have stood up and clapped when the prince finally gave it to her. This is definitely not a movie for a guy to go and see, they should stick with The Departed.
I would suggest for anyone maybe thinking about going to see this movie to go check out another instead, The Grudge 2 was pretty good and I heard The Departed was also a good movie. This movie Marie Antoinette is a disappointment and a total waste of the 7 dollars I spent and a waste of my 123 minutes. Kirsten Dunst could have done a lot better in a movie choice. And while I'm at it placing very modern music in the background to a movie that's suppose to take place in the 18th century doesn't make a lot of sense to me. At least they could have given us a beheading scene it would have made sitting through all that worthwhile.

  • Modern Rock music set to a 18th century style movie?
  • 123 LONG minutes
  • Will he just do his duties and connsumate that marriage?
Marie Antoinette was cruely treated during her final days of captivity. Her best friend, the Princess de Lambelle, was killed and her severed head was put on a pike and paraded in front of the Queen.

I absolutely loved this movie. Modern Music was used because it sybollises Marie Antoinettes anarchy ways and rebellion. There were some great camera production/angles used, and nobody but Kirsten Dunst could of pulled it off. It dragged on a little in some parts, but after finally seeing it (and I wanted to for a while) I was satisfied. It wasnt THAT bad surely.

Yep, this movie was a wortheless "slice of life" movie. Sofia Coppola managed to make a very interesting subject, quite dull. I got what she was going for, but I just kept waiting and waiting for the movie to start. It was a waste of time for sure, and it's a shame because the subject matter and idea of approach was great.

I loved the scenery and costumes and I like Kirsten Dunst. It showed a side of the famous Marie Antoinette that I certainly didn't know about before....

Boring? I just don't understand the negative reviews of this movie. I thought it was excellent. Your comment though::"So basically through over half of this movie you're wondering when he is going to "give it to her":: might indicate your degree of expectation.
